Caüííiit.—The four negroes that ran away
fromSeguin lately, have been captured. They
were discovered eight miles this side of the
Rio Grande. One of the negroeu, [John,] see-
ing his pursuers sooner than the rest escaped to
the ri?er at which place be was drowned. They
were, when discovered, in a state of starvation
having nothing but prickly-pears to eat. They

1 o'clock,
The weather it awful hot at present writing!
tlf What an improvement! The old bridge
has not been suffered to fall entirely down of
itself, those of our citizens who live in that
vicinity and have business over the bridge
seeing that the city did not intend to do any-
thing towards the building of a bridge hate
raised a subscription to repair the old one
and have torn it all away exccpt the under
works which they Intend to leave standing,
asihey are not able to bultd an entire new
one. This is bad policy, for the Bible says if yon
put new wine in old bottles the battles will
brake and the wine spill, thus if the bridge is
repaired wkb new timber, the old timber will
give way in los than a year, aftd all the money
any trouble oí our citizens will be lost.
