Picnic and Meeting
Winding up their year's work,
the Caldwell Parent Teacher Asso-
ciation will sponsor a picnic at the
high school gymnasium Tuesday
evening, May 10, at 7:15, it was
announced this week. Following the
picnic the regular meeting will be
held. All members are urged to
attend as new officers will be in-
stalled.

Texas' leading officials, top military figures, high-rank-
ing American Legion officers, a famous Air Corps band, and
•1 flight demonstration by fast fighter planes will join to help
write a memorable page in Caldwell's history Wednesday,
May 18, when the American Legion Memorial Home will be
ledicated here, it was announced this week by Garland
(Chink) Smith, program chairman.
More than a score of notables, headed by the state's two
top ranking officials, tiovernor Beauford H. Jester and Lieutenant
Governor Allan Shivers, will take part in the colorful ceremony which
which will mark the opening of
the $.'10,000 memorial building at
the Burleson County Fair Grounds.
Addresses by Governor Jester and
Lieutenant Governor Shivers, both
of whom are legionnaires, will i e

laid in Shadow Creek in the moun-
tains of Kentucky and Tennessee.

State Commander Takes Part
Wm. (Bill) McCraw, a veteran
of both World Wars, former at-
torney general of Texas, and now
State Commander of the Anrerican
Legion, will come here from Dal-
las to appear on the program.
Ward Moody, State Adjutant of
the American Legion, and many
other prominent legionnaires will
be among the distinguished guesta
present, according to Smith.
Major General K. L. Berry, who
is the state's Adjutant General
and head of the Texas National
Guard, will be the leading military
figure present for the ceremonies.
General Berry, one of the heroes
of Bataan, made the famous Death
March, and along with General
Jonnthan Wainwright, spent 40
months in a Japanese prison camp.
Major General Miller Ainswortli,
who figured prominently wi'h
Texas' Sflth Division in World War
II, also will be present.
Smith announced that arrange-
ments have been completed for
the Lackland Air Base Band of
San Antonio to provide music for
the afternoon program. The 70-
piecc band is considered to be one
of the best military musical or.

Another high point on the pro-
gram will be a flight demonstra-
tion by planes from Bergstrom
Army* Air Base in Austin. Smith
stated that Col. Ashley Packard
of the 27th Fighter Wing will send
