In theory, the exchange of
New Year calls and Christmas
gifts is a beautiful custom. The
holidays is a lime when kindly
feelings and universal good-will
prompt a general manifestation
of regard in the exchange of
calls and presen: . It is the
friendship expressed in the act
that is valued. The cause and
not the effect occasions the
pleasure. All look forward to
the happy holiday times when
each heart is gladdened, and, in
turn, makes others glad by to-
kens of honest regard and friend-
ly feclmg. The world fairly
beamy with good cheer.

again
In starting upon the journey
of a new year an excellent maxim
is that which counsels ns never
to put our hands to any thing
into which we cannot throw our
whole energies harnessed with
the very best of our endeavors.
Perseverance is essential to
success, since it is often achieved
only through a succession of
failures. In ppite of our best
efforts, failuiesare in store for
the majority of the race. It re-
main*. then, for us all to do the
best we cea under ell circum-
stances, bearing in oiiad tbet
reces are not elweye won by tbe
swiftest feet nor triumph in
battle secured by tbe strongest
arma. It ¡h not ao much tbe
possession of swiftness or
strength as it is tbe rigbt appli-
cstion of thein by wbicb success
is insured.
The you tb who starts out in
life with an earnest determine*
tion to be honest, upright, faith-
ful to all trusts, punctual, atten-
tive, and above all, God-fearing,
has a promise of abundant suc-
cess. Though he be without
money, or wealthy friends, he
will be sure to gain all that he
most desires and make a success
of life. Start today.

"To Whom It May Concern:
I am a trained nurse of nine
years' experience in hospitals
and private cases, and for tbe
benefit of the people of Ca!dwell
I wisb you would publish my
experince with cod liver prep-
aration, Vinol.
"1 wan completely prosprated
from overwork. I bad no ap-
petite, could not sleep, my
kidneys, liver and bowels be-
came inactive, and as I grew
weaker I could not retain either
medicine or food on my stomach,
and raised blood. The doctors
said my condition was critical
I and I would probably die.
"Ah I had seen Vinol pre-
scribed for my patients with
such remarkable results, I de-
sided to try it. After the first
bottle I began to improve. I
continued its use, and soon bc-
<an to sleep and eat well; every
organ in my body was strength-
ened and became normal, until
it seemed gx d to be alive and I
was restored to perfect health
and strength.
"1 advise all my patients who
need strength, rich, red blood,
and llesh tissue to take Vinol, as
it is so far superior to old-fash-
ioned cod liver oil, emulsions, or
, other tonics.'' Elizabeth M.

J. T. Wood \\as in town early
Tuesday morr.inff in his wagon
and went to the bank and check-
ed out $1300 in silver, which he
loaded in the wagon and took
five or six miles in the country
1 to pay a note with. The note
w.th due that day and the party
holding it notified Mr. Wood
that if it was not paid he would
foreclose and retain possession
of the farm. Mr. Wood had
paid one thousand on the place
and offered a check in payment
of this note, but the holder de-
manded the cash and was of
course anxious that it could not
be obtained. It cost him a trip
to lirownwood, for at* soon as he
received this big load of silver
he hitched his team and started
for lirownwood, where he placed
it on deposit in a bank. We
have heard that tho same party
has «orne vendors lien noten out-
standing against his place that
arc past due and unpaia and
that Mr. Wood has bought them
in. II no, there in likely to be
some more fun. All of which
reminds us that a man who sets
a snare for his neighbor may j
easily be caught in it, and that
it pays to "do untw others as j
you would have them do unto
you."
