Our city officials should compel

in the rear of T. F. Gilley's store.
It is a nuisance and a detriment to
both Mr. Gilley and the general

The Ledger want^ to record as 1
being strictly against the practice
of peace officers making a search
of every freight train ti at passes
through the town in effort to pull
some poor devil who is trying to
make his way to some place where
he can find work, and woud give
them warning that there has been
a decision of the higher courts to
the effect that a complaint against
a person f« r train riding must
specify where the defendant board-
ed the train, and that venue was
where the train was boarded and
n<>t where h* was pulled off. An
ounce of precaution is better than
a case in the Federal court. The
above is not written as a reflection
on any officer in particular, as we
are friendly to them all, but are
simply dropping a little timely hint.
Jnst as was expected, O. B. Col-
quitt has announced for the United
States senate to succeed Hon. C. A.
Culberson, however, it is hardly
likely that he will have the nerve
to make the race, since he is very
antagonistic to the Wilson admin-
istration, for Texas democrats will
send a man to the senate who is
in harmony with the administra-
tion, and should Culberson not be a
candidate, then the boys from the
forks of the creek, will rally to
the support of the matchless
R, L. Henry, who is ever work-
ing for their interests in Congress.
Geo. Riddle of Dallas is said to be
a candidate for the place, and ¿here
may be others, but the man elected
will have Henry to beat.
So many bills have been intro-
duced in the legislature already
that the appropriation bills have
been tabled until after the sixty
day limit of the legislature when
the $5 per day ceases and the $2
per day pay begins. This looks
like an extra session is sure.
A resolution has been introduced
in the legislature at Austin to cut
Texas up and make another state
to be known as Jefferson, out of
territory from Abilene, El Paso
and the Panhandle, however it's
hardly probable that an election
will be called, as the resolution
was introduced on account of the
state not being redistricted so as
to give that part oí the state its
juf*t representation in Congress but
a bill has been introduced and re-
ported favorably by the committee
to redistrict the State in such a
manner as to not put any two of
the present representatives in con-
gress in the same district, and giv-
ing West Texas the two additional
congressman. It is thought very
likely that the bill will pass. It
makes no change in this district.
The Ledger believes with the
effort of some of our leading citi-
zens a good bond issue could be
easily carried in this precinct tor
road improvements.
