A man who was a passenger on an
excursion steamer which returned a
few «lavs ago from Panama and

were deeply interested in what they

of the canal in the four days which

the locks ami other wonders of the
canal construction." he said, "natu-

iltiH< suits which we had to buy, the
independence of the merchants who
won ill not send them to you, and the
hospitality of the members of the
American club will all be remem-
bered, but the most wonderful thing
we saw was the purchase by nearly
^vcry .visites of a real Bahama sou-

the
There arc about us thousands and
thousands of poor creatures who
have nothing of beauty in their lives;
they come, they go, in obscurity, and
we believe that all is dead within
them; and no one pays any heed.
And then one day a simple word, ss
unexpected ailence, s little tesr thst
springs from (he source of besuty
itself, t'.-lls us thst they hsvs found
the means of raising sloft, in the
shadow of their soul, sn idesl s thou-
