day. The norther was not very
cold and was a gift the farmers

I will tell you what is going on
in this section.
The corn is up and we are all
planting cotton.
Saturday afternoon we had a

it was very much appreciated.

appointment here Sunday, bat

W. C. Ivy of Volney, viaited
friends and relatives here Satur-
day night and Sunday.
Mrs. J. ?. Little's nephew, of
Oauae, visited her family here
the last of last week.
llosen Groce, of Volney, spent
a few pleasant hours amongst us
Sunday afternoon.
We are glad to see our R, F.
D. carrier able to carry tlie mail
again.
Sam Davidson, of Tunis, spent
Sunday evening here the guest
of Mr. Henderson and other
friends.
There was a singing at the
residence of Mr*. Henderson
Sunday and all who attended re-
port a pleasant, time.

Since my last report we have
hada fine rain; it was highly
appreciated, for we needed it
very much. We have a splendid
stand of corn and it looks real
nice; some is already plowed
over. The greater part of the
cotton crop is planted. Our gar-
den vegetables are looking good,
and we are sure enjoying them.
Emery Hberrill and wife of
Brazos connty, visited home
folks Saturday and Sunday.
Claude Edward*' family from
Pitts Bridge visited John 8her-
rell's family Sunday.
Andrew Taylor is on the sick
list this week, but is improving
nicely now.
There was a prohibition club
organized at the Point last Fri
day night, C. R. Runkle being
elected president and C. M. Mitch
ell secretary-treasurer.
Dr. C. A, Sherrill's wife is
sick, but we hope she will be
well soon.
The school at the Point will
close next, Tuesday, Yhere is to
be a tine picnic at the close, Miss
Willie Runkle has taught us a
tine school; she is a successful
teacher, a lady of the tirst rank.

The farmf-rs are jubilant over
the rain which fed last Satur-
day; the seasons were never
more promising for a good crop
than at this time. Cotton plant-
ing is now the order of the clay.

A large number of people from
here attended the funeral aer-
vices of Billie Ward at Provi-
dence cemetery laat Monday
afternoon.
Mr. Vrflie Hart of Dallas, who
wiiu organist and singer for Maj.
Penu in hie big camp meeting
iu this county thirty years ago,
was at Providence Monday. We
were glad to meet hiui again as
it brought back many sweet
memories of tin* past.

Fine rains fell Saturday last,
filling up the creeks and tank*.
Grass is better than usual and
field crops'and gardens are in
good shape. The spring season
is and has been fine and every
body is feeling that prosperous
times are in store for us. <
A new enterprise has been
started near here, Messrs. Lank>-
hammer & Dipple having estab
üshed a charcoal manufacting
business on J. R. Lyon's U>n >
near here They are on the
ground with a lot of Mexican
and teams at work. They ex-
pect to operate on a large scale
and ship their product from here
in car load lots to all parts of
the country. It is a new enter-
prise for our country, and with
plenty of raw material and mon
ey and energy to handle it, we
do not see why thev should not
make it pay; and it certainly is
a good thing for our community.
Green Williams, with a gang
of county teams, assisted b.\
Commissioner Lyon, is doinp
some substantial improvement on
our public roads.
Deputy Assessor Barnett it-
pay ing the regular annual visit
to every man in precincts 4 ami
8, plying them with the usual
questions as to their worldly
possessions.
The public school, which lias
been efficiently managed by Mi.-s
Matthews and Miss Keese, will
be close in three weeks.

sick.
I ncle Tom Fulcher has been
quite sick but is better.
The oil mill is running thi¡>
week, winding up the season'.-
grinding.
Bro. A. N. Pledger of Caldwell
preached here Monday night,
and the congregation was well
pleased with his sermon.
We expect and wish great re-
sults from the new "Ledger"
