Won't 15ct. cotton look good to
Stonewall farmers?
Keep boosting! Everything
is coming our way.
If our east Texas friends could
see some portions of West Texas
—Stonewall county for instance—
we believe their prejudices
would melt to tears.
In all probability the next cen-
sus will give Texas twenty-two
Congressmen, and the people are
wondering whether or not this
gain in numbers will prove profi-
table to the state?
After wearv months of toil and
privatation. Dr. Fredrick A.
Cook of New York has discover-
ed the North Pole, and after all
where's thex gain? But it was
ever thus. Men will stake their
lives and their all for a little
notoriety.
The "Jackson Cock-tail" is the
latest drink in prohibition terri-
tory. It is made of cider and
Jamaica ginger and is said to be
capable of producing a jag in a
very few rounds; but the author-
ities are at a loss to know how to
stop the sale of it.
East Texas cannot say to West
Texas, "We are the garden spot
of Texas" this year, and ao other
year as for that matter, but con-
ditions in the west this year are
so far ahead of the east that there
is nó comparison whatever. Now
this is not said in a spirit of bo^ist-
fulness, nor is it a knock on east
Texas, it is merely astatementof
facts. We have no ill will what-
ever at east Texas but want to
see her people prosper—we are
for the whole of Texas.
. GINNERS'
COTTON ESTIMATE
Report Indicates a Total
Yield of 10,500,000
Bales of Cotton
Memphis, Aug. 30.—The re-
port of the National Ginners' As-
sociation made public this after-
noon gives the condition of cot-
ton up to and including August
24th as 64.1 per cent.
"This is the lowest condition
in a number of years," says the
report, "and indicates a crop of
about 10,500.000 bales. An early
frost would reduce these figures
somewhat, and a late frost would
probably increase the total yield
to 11,000,000 bales."
By states: Alabama 56, Ark-
ansas 59, Florida 76, Georgia 74,
Louisiana 54, Mississippi 62, Mis-
souri SO, North Carolina 75, Ok-
lahoma 58. South Carolina 76-
Tennessee 75, Texas 57, general
acreage 64.1.
This indicates a crop of about
2,000,000 bales of Texas. The
ginners' report that they ginned
1,565.175 bales last > ear in Texas
and they estimate they will gin
776,119 bales this year, with
average weather.
The star of Bethlehem, visible
once in every 500 years may now
be seen in the eastern skies for a
short time between the hours of
2_and 4 a. m. So if you wish to
see this wonderful visitor that
noted astronomers tell us guided
the wise men of the East to the
manger where the Savior of man-
kind lay as an infant, set your
alarm clock at 2 o'clock, get up
and search for it in the eastern
sky.
As it is visible only once in 500
years, it isn't likely that you will
have another chance of viewing
it in all its splendor as it adorns
the firmament the fairest and
brightest among millions of its
companions.—Ex.
CANYON CITY
GETS THE SCHOOL
Locating Committe For Nor-
mal School Gives Abpve
City the Laurels.
That Canyon City would land
the Normal School was hardly
given a thought, and the locating
of same there goes to prove that
we know not our fellow man.
Qute a number of other
places—and places that seemed to
us more desirable—were favor-
ably mentioned and when the
news was flashed oyer the
that the above named town
been selected we were disinclin-
ed to believe the report. How- .
ever, the matter is now settled
and we trust the selection will
prove profitable and satisfactory
to the people of West Texas. It
is now only a question of a short
while when another school will
be established and we trust the
next locating committee will look
upon Central West Texas in a
more favorable light.
Don't overlook the fact that we s
have .a thorough experienced and
competent milliner to look after
your wants in this line.

"Can be depended upon" is an
expression we all like to hear, and
when it is used in connection with
Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and
Diarrhoea Remedy it means that
it never fails to cure diarrhoea,
dysentery or bowel complaints.
It is pleasant to take and equally
valuable for children and adults.
Sold by all druggists.
Not a minute should be lost
when a child shows symptoms of
croup. Chamberalin's Cough
Remedy given as soon as the child
becomes hoarse, or even afterthe
croupv cough appears, will pre-
vent the attack. Sold by all
druggists.
Be courteous to your children.
A kind manner and a gentle tone
usually has the desired effect,
however obdurate the case, and
children are born imitators. As
in waters, "face answerth face,"
so the reflection of our own lives
in those of our children. Make
home the most attractive place
in the world for them: give them
space to play, even if carpets and
furniture suffer a little. Cer-
tainlv order and cleanliness
should be a law in every house-
hold, but take heed lest your
children fear a stain upon clothes
or carpet more than one upon
their conscience.
