afternoon, Dr. T. J. McCamant
was elected chairman and S. W.
Thomas secretary of the Bailey

about 100 members, and clubs
will be organized in every voting
precinct in the county. The fol-
lowing resolutions were adopted:
Resolved that we, citizens and
democratic voters of Stonewall

bled do adopt the following reso-
lutions:
1st—That we affirm our alle-
giance to the true and honored
principles of Democracy as exem-
plified by Hpn. Wm. Jennings
Bryan, our great national leader,
and as, maintained and upheld by
our matchless senators from Tex-
as, J. W. Bailey and Chas. A.
Culberson, and we deprecate the
uncalled for fight carried on by
people tryi" *se as demo-
crats against, our r *tchless states-
man Joseph W. ^>áiley, whose in-
tegrity and fidelity to our inter-
ests has always been such as to
command the respect and loyal
endorsement throughout the na-
tion.
2nd—That we have undaunted
faith in the ability, honor and in-
tegrity of Senator Bailey, and
hereby indorse him for delegate
at large to the Democratic na-
tional convention at Denver in
the interest of the state and true
Democracy.
3rd—We heartily indorse the
candidacy of the grand old con-
federate veteran, Hon. R. M.
Wynne, of Fort Worth, Texas,
for Attorney General of Texas.

BRUTALLY MURDERED.

Most Horrible Crime in the
History of Stonewall Coun=
ty Committed Near Mattie

Guntram Sadeck, an old ger-
man who lived alone in the Mat-
tie community, was found dead
last Friday morning near his
tent. Officers were at once noti-
fied and Sheriff Senter, Justice
Storey, Attorney Dickey and oth-
ers repaired to the scene to
make an investigation. On ar-
riving at the place designated it
was found that a most brutal
murder had been committed, the
victem having been shot through
the lungs and cut across the side
of the head with an axe, and hit
in the forehead with the pole of
an axe. Drs. McCamant and
Carrington were called out and
after partially disemboweling
the remains found a ball from a
22 calibre cartridge lodged inside
the stomach or near the left side.
Sheriff Senter, together with a
number of assistants, immediate-
ly set to work to try to locate the
guilty parties and soon they had
gained what .they considered suf-
ficient circumstantial evidence to
justify the arrest of four parties,
viz: Jeff Davis, Eli Davis, Gus
West and Pippins Parks. These
parties were brought to town and
held over until Tuesday when an
examining trial was begun. At
the beginning of this trial j^oung
Parks was discharged from cus-
tody and the investigation of the
other parties is being held collec-
tively.
Nothing that has ever occurred
in Stonewall county has wrought
our people up to the pitch that
has this murder, and we are loath
to believe that we have within
our county's limits any person or
persons who would stoop so low
as to murder an old innocent, in-
offensive man, who was never
known to meddle with other peo-
ple's affairs. "
We would be only too glad to
know that the parties charged
with this crime are perfectly in-
nocent and that no such thought
had ever entered their minds.
Latter:—Just before going to
press the examination in the
above case closed and Justice
Storey granted Jeff and Eli
Davis bail in the sum of $5,000.
00 each and Gus West in the
sum of $1000.00 Jeff Davis made
bond and was released and it is
presumed the others will have no
difficulty in making their bonds.
Haskell seems to be having
some trouble over the race protv
lem. State rangers were ordered
out last week, but we understand
they were not needed as the
i
sheriff had the situation under
control when they arrived. We
trust there will be no serious
trouble over the pesky negro
question.
