That sly old gentleman. Jupi-
ter pluvias, altas "Cloudburst"
SkyHplllter, won the openluK Karn-
es bel ween the I'lWfRer and La-
in own baseball teams here last
night.
Now If Mr. I'luvius will Just be
satisfied with (lie trouble he's
caused and lei well enough
alone, the Borger (lastiers and
the Lamesa I,oboes will play
some ball tonight at Huber Park.
You all ltn\V a Standing Invi-
tation to come out at 8:80 p. ill.
nightly this w#ek. Storting to-
morrow those surprising Ama-
rillo Gold Sox, last year's cellar
residáis and now topping the
WT-NM standings, make their
first Invasion Into Borger for lea-
itue games. There will be three
contests, continuing through Fri-
day.
The Gassers, of course, will
try to titke the Sox apart to see
what makes tlietn lick.
But the big problem right now
that faces the Gassers Is how to
heat the Lohoes Manager Jodie
Tate has brought to town.
After setbacks al Pampa that
sent them downward In the
standings, the Lamesaus aren't
likely to be In a gentle mood.
The Gassers too are more deter-
mined than ever to win and shut
off I heir losing streak at four
games.
Bennle Franklin Is the proba-
ble Gnssor pitcher. Lofty Lucas,
the Lobo Ace, last night was sche-
duled to pitch before the showers
came up and caused postpone-
ment or the game, so bo's likely
to be nattted ugain tonight.
Lamesa has rivo men hack
from Its last year team. Among
them Is Pat Paltorson. the pitch-
er who the other day at Pampa
socked throe home runs. The first
one of the group was his first
homer h'i in pro ball, so no's
still pretty tickled.
Business Manager Bob Take-
well said (Ills morning the field
would be dry enough to play upon
unless more fain falls today. He
said there was nothing to rum-
ors that the Gassers had brought
several new players into town.
The shortstop position, where
the tlassers have been especially
vulnerable so fnr this season re-
mains In the same situation, with
Pal Bell at the post.
"rung" Dlngman, the former
Huber player is expected to re-
cover In about two weeks from
the broken right arm he suffered
by a pitched ball at Parnpe re-
cently. "
Pat Bell. who played short
last year Is doing the very bosl
mm he can there. Hut Bell nev-
er has claimed to he a shortstop,
preferring to roam the outfield
He took over there when Man-
ager Nell moved him in.
Joe Cephus. the Oklahoma
rookies who started out at short
this season. Is looking on from
the bench.
Rain washed out all oilier lea-
gue games excettt the Big SprliiR-
Clovls battle. CioVis won. 13-12,

lly The Associated Press
The troubles of the Dnllas
Rebels in the Texas League race
have reached alarming propor-
tions.
It doesn't seem (o mat tar how
the opposition periforme, the
Rebels lose anyway.
Last night the Rebels bounced
ten base knocks against the
boards. Tulsa got but three off
Lefty Rob Uhle but the Oilers
won 6-4.
It's been like that entirely
too long. For Instance, in the
lit ; ten days Rebels have lost
three games In which the pitch-
ers gave up a total of ten hita.
Meanwhile. Houston's Ruffs
march on toward widening lead
over the Held. Last night the
Buffs beat Shreveport 9-4 while
second-place San Antonio was
Idle. It increased Houston's mar
gin to three games.
Hunk Nowak allowed the
Sports soven hits while his mat-
es got ten. using two big inn-
ing to sew up the gamo.
Oklahoma City olung to third
place with an 8-3 triumph over
Fort Worth with third baseman
Ted Cioslak leading the offen-
sive. He rapped out three hits
and scored four runs.
Low McLendon held the Panth-
ers to j/X hits.
