The number of country people in town

past. We have no market changes to
note in the leading staples. Money

glad to note a better and more hopeful
feeling prevailing in business eireles,
and note a good propect for a reac-
tion. The recent failures are to be at-
triboted more to an unforeseen Jombi-

Many of the merchants in the South
bought heavily of jobbers in New York
just before the panie in 1673. The
panic then came and the very goods
they had bought a few months before
went down from a third to a ball.
Then it was that the West bought;
consequently her merchants are in a
better state than those of the South
The Southern merchants, to hold their
own and meet a port’on at least of
their paper, had to mark down their
goods at a ruinous rate. Cotton prints
which they had bought just
