Four-Year-Old ‘Find’
Debuts In New Film
Carolyn Lee is the four-year-
eld girl who makes her screen de-
but in "Honeymoon in Bali," the
comedy romance which opens Wed-
nesday at the Brady Theatre, and
in more ways than one she's per-
fectly precious!
For the young lady, according to
the stars of the picture, Fred Mac-
Murray, Madeleine Carroll and Al-
lan Jones is the screen “find” of
the generation. She is hailed as the
the sort of child who will be taken |
into the hearts of children and a-1
dults alike because she's not “brat-
ty". and doesn’t trot out ability to
sing or tan dance or beat a drum
at the slightest provocation!
Carolyn was discovered accident-1
ally. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Warren Conn, are old friends of
an Ohio Theatre executive. Meet-]
ing Carolyn for the first time—■
that’s her real given name—he was
so impressed with the child’s per-1
sonality, poise and appearance that |
he sent a photograph of her to a
Paramount executive. The execu-
tive liked the photo so well that
he arranged to meet the child. Im-
pressed, he ordered a screen test
made of her with Madeleine Car-
roll.
Carolyn must be seen to be ap-
preciated. In "Honeymoon in Bali.”
she is a waif left on Fred MacMur-
ray's hands by an old friend. Mac-
Murray. adventuresome fellow just
returned from Bali, has fallen in
love with Madeleine Carroll, and
uses the little girl as ammunition
to prove to the beautiful executive
that there isn’t much difference be-
tween the heart of a career wo-
man and any other woman.
The featured supporting cast al-
so includes Helen Broderick and
Osa Massen.

RESUME
When a German submarine
sinks his tug off Nantucket,
frowzy Cap Thorson decides the
War is his personal quarrel and
enlists in the subchaser division.
His one object is to get the
U-boat responsible. He smarts
under discipline and is doubly
miserable to find that young
Rocky Blake, his long-time
enemy in the tug business, is
his squadron commander. Cap’s
disregard of Navy regulations
nets him a court martial and a
demotion in rank from chaser
captain to gob. The submarine
continues taking its toll in
American waters. The Navy
Department outfits a "mystery
ship”—an old fishing schooner,
the “Phinie G” is equipped
with wireless and sent out with
a crew of picked men, with
Rocky in command to serve as
lookout for the subchaser squad-
ron. Rocky forces Cap to join
the crew. The submarine em-
erges on the Grand Banks and
accosts the “Phinie G" for sup-
plies. Rocky radios the chaser
squadron giving the sub’s loca-
tion. The U-boat operator picks
up the message, too. The“Phinie
G" is searched and its hidden
wireless room discovered. Rocky
then gives Cap the chance he
wants — he tells him to take
the wheel and ram the sub-
marine.

Chapter Ten
THORSON, U. S. NAVY
Cap wild with excitement seized
the wheel.
Rocky grinned his keen delight
in Thorson’s abrupt, instinctive
trasformation into a first class
fighting man.
The “Phinie O” roared with ac-
crackled and roared as it crashed
to the deck, but she plunged on.
She was almost on top of the sub,
when a rt aught her squarely
and bro’. r to a shuddering
stop.
The bana of white feather at
her forefoot disappeared. She set-
tled quickly by the head, and as
her after part rose steeply, her
bow plunged downward.
Her crew crowded into the gang-
ways. One pulled a spar clear of
Blake; others rushed to the rescue
of their fellow sailors who had
fallen.
Cap Thorson, still manning the
wheel, leaned forward to shout his
warning into the hatch: “Up on
deck, engineer. She’s going."
Rocky struggled to his feet and
shook his head to clear It. "Over
you go. men," he ordered. "Every
man for himself."
His voice could be heard above
the din.
"Jump, you swabs," roared Cap.
"Some of the dories are washed
over — they’re still floating —
get the skipper into one — ”
The men leaped at his words.
Some grabbed Rocky and lifted
him over into one of the small
boats. Those who could crowded
into the dories. Others dove from
the rail, to be fished out by their
comrades in the boats.
Cap clung to the wheel until the
last moment, then, with a quick
jump, cleared the schooner. He
swam to one of the dories and
clambered in. As he stood up to
survey the scene, the "Phinie G".
her colors still flying, plunged
downward.
Cap raised his fist in rage and
shook it madly at the submarine.
On the conning tower, the U-
boat Captain bellowed his fury
across the water: ’Where’s the
Captain of that schooner? Where's
the man who tried to ram my
ship?"
Cap cupped his hands to mouth
and spat out his rage: "I tried to
ram your submarine — and I’ll do

A line with a grapnel attached
flew out from the U-boat and
landed in Cap's dory, catching oa
its gunwale. Instantly the line
tautened and the small boat was
quickly hauled alongside.
Two husky German sailors rush-
ed down a sea-ladder and grabbed
Cap bodily, pulling him on board
the submarine.
Cap fought like a wild man to
free himself, but they held him
pinnod.
"Let me talk to that pirate," he
fumed. '
The German tightened his grip.
“Shut your mouth," he snarled.
"Quiet Come along now — " and
rushed the still struggling Cap to
the submarine commander.
At the sight of the man he
considered his personal enemy —
the very Captain whose orders had
sent his prised "Susan H" down
to the bottom of the sea. Cap
Thorson exploded with hate.
The German commander eyed
him quizzically for a moment. "The
barge captain!" he exclaimed, re-
membering.
“Not no more,” Cap shouted an-
grily. . Just plain Thorson — U.S.

“You think they won't?” Cap |
laughed derisively. “You poor dumb |
cluck. They'll blow you from here
to Boston. You don’t know my out-
fit. You don’t know the U.S. Navy.”
He glanced out at the "Phinie

submarine's reach His face lighted
with sudden joy. In the not too far
distance the squadron of subchas-
ere plunged Into view.
"Come on you splinter fleet!”
Cap roared.
The U-boat Captain motioned
the sailors guarding Cap to take
