Mr. Hurd became a member of
the firm, later to be joined by Mr.
Hallum in operating the business
together for a quarter of a cen-
tury.
The New And The Old Original Brady Auto Company Buildings
In 1910 a stock company was
formed composed of J. M. Stewart,
Jim Mann, Duke Mann, Frank
Wilhelm, Mr. Hurd and Mr. Hal-
lum, and possibly others, Mr. Hal-
lum recalled. Two years later Hal-
lum, Hurd and Crothers bought
out the interests of all other stock
holders, operating the company
until 1936. It was then Mr. Hallum
sold his interest to A. L. Gray,
B. R. Sheffield and others.
Mr. Hallum recalled that in 1914
a week before the World War was
declared, a fire burned the build-

dy Auto Company operated under
a number of Brady business men,
and by Frank V. Hurd and B. A.
Hallum continuously from 1910 to
1936. .
Formed in 1908 by W. D. Croth-
ers, Jack Savage and Johnny
Thompson, all of whom have since
passed on, Brady Auto Company
eventually grew into one of the
biggest automobile agencies in
West Texas. The following year
automobile, notes, accounts, and
some cash. There was no insur-
ance on the building or its con-
tents, Mr. Hallum said.
The building was rebuil- and
opened about January 1, 1915, and
was remodeled some five years
later. Mr. Hallum said that he and
Mr. Hurd, from 1915 to 1920 in-
clusive, sold more Buick automo-
biles than they could get shipped
in, and that one year during that
period they sold 98 six-cylinder
Buicks in this area, and could have

Raymond and George have been
business partners since April,
1935, and have many friends and
patrons throughout this section.
In fact, both are home boys, hav-
ing been born and reared in Mc-
Culloch county. Raymond worked
for the original Brady Auto Com-
pany for 11 years, being in the
front for six years, and in the shop
for five.

Mr. Hallum now has retired
from business, and only a few
months ago Mr. Hurd sold his in-
terest in Brady Auto Company to
retire to his farm in the East
Sweden community to devote his
full time to the raising of turkeys,
an industry he had pioneered in
this section and had followed as
a sideline to his business in Brady.
John Chambers Held

John Chambers, proprietor of
the Sanitary Plumbing & Sheet
Metal Works, held the plumbing
and sheet metal contract on the
New Brady Auto Company build-
ing. _
Besides a complete plumbing
land sheet metal service, Mr.
Chambers is dealer for the famous
Air Flow Samson windmills. He
also features a complete line of

original Brady Auto Company
building, quite a contrast, eh?
The old building is the one
that burned in 1914, being re-
built the following year.
