"All of our equipment is from
the period," explained Dyson
Nickle, a Civil War reenactor and ,
one of the organizers of the en-
campment. The participants pride J (
themselves on the authenticity of Al
their costumes and equipment. "y
Reenactors help preserve the A
history of the period through their 6
hobby of dressing and acting as S
soldiers and cavalry of the era.
Many are descendents of Civil War
veterans; others just have a strong
interest in the period. Reenactors
have played a major role in two re-
cent feature films based on the
events of the Civil War: Glory and
Gettysburg.
The encampment will be pre-
sented as a living history lesson for
students and the public. The tents
and equipment will be on display
from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 pan. Mon-
day. and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tuesday. Amateur historians, Civil
War enthusiasts, and any other in-
terested persons are invited to view
the encampment.
