TRIALS OF THE EDITOR
To run a paper without occasion-
ally publishing in item that is det-
rimental to some persons like run
ning a railroad without having ac-
cidents or mishaps. To do either is
a physical impossibility.
No man on earth is to so great an
exteit constantly at the mercy of
both friends and enemies as ths edi-
tor of a newspaper. He must get
much of the information concern-
ing transpiring events second or
third handed or not at all.
Frequently statements are re-
ceived from supposedly trustworthy
sources which are subsequently
found to be without foundation.
Not one editor in a thousand will-
fully injures either friend or foe by
misrepresentation. Go to him and
ask for a correction and nine cases
out of ten if your case is just you
will be received politely and proper
correction rill be made with pleas-
ure.—Fourth Estate.

Brighter Times Ahssd
The fact that fifty-sevei new cot
ton mills have been built in the
South during the past twelve
months and the probability that as
many more will be erected during
the coming twelve mouths pro-
vided there is ue set-back in the
iinanical world makes an extra-
ordinary epoch in the industrial
and commercial history of the
South. Such an epoch can only be
described by employing the super-
latives of speech. The effect of the
movement that is producing ouch a
result will be felt all oyer the
world. In the South it will change
the whole aspect of affairs. It will
give rise to new ideas new ambi-
tions and new ideals. It will change
the whole face of our relations with
the rest of the world and will bring
this part of the country into closer
touch with all the great movements
that look to the betterment of man-
kind.
It seems indeed that we are at
the beginning of a new day when
the South will not only produce cot-
ton enough to clothe the inhabit-
ants of the world but manufacture
it into the fabrics for which there io
the largest and most insistent de-
mand. The economic changes that
will be nay that have already been
—produced in the South by this
movement of the cotton mills to the
cotton fields are simply incalcul-
able.—Atlanta Constitution.

Learn all that you can in every
way you can that is worth learning.
The humblest friend may prove your
greatest teacher if you are willing
to learn. The smallest events may
prove means to a great end if you
will make it so. Keep rising; let
your intellectual wings grow and
spread everyday; never allow your-
self to feel that your school days are
over; always be glad to count your-
self a learner in life’s school. Bring
out the hidden treasures of your
mind; keep them buried no longer
but let them be brought into ac-
tion-let them rise to seek the light
of Truth aad Wisdom.
