Items for the Christmas Gala to be held at the
Civic Center Saturday may be taken by senior
citizens to the Denton Savings Association today
through Friday. ...
Altrusa Club of Denton, which has rented a
booth in the annual city-wide bazaar, will sell the
handmade items for area residents and return
all profits to the seller. Each participant may
price his or her articles to be sold.
Merchandise will be accepted in the basement
of Denton Savings Association from 9 a.m. to
noon today through Thursday. Food items will be
accepted on Friday only at the same place and
hours.
More information on the event is available
during business hours from Lois Drake at 387-
3877 or Nancy Millichamp at 387-3505.
“Anyone who has raised chil-
dren knows how engrossed they
can get in play,” she says. “The
child is usually concerned with
just one thing, and that is what is
going on at the moment. The goal
is to enter the safety material
into their awareness.”
Students, through repetition
and response, both as pedestrians
and bicyclists, gain experiences
that prepare them to interact
more successfully with other
highway users. Ms Hughes said.
They learn to avoid faulty .
assumptions about right-of-way
and about the intentions of
others. -
Another example of children's E
relying heavily on the adult
driver cited by Ms. Hughes is
when the youngster rides his
bicycle along a busy street,
Because they are attuned to •
student’s curriculum, says Ms.
Hughes, who has developed a
safety course geared to students
from kindergarten through the
ninth grade.
“It is best to start teaching
children as soon as they start to
go out and play,” Ms. Hughes
says. "Traffic safety has to be
habit-forming, and it is good to
bring it before the child at a time
when he or she is becoming
aware of the outside world."
The most ideal presentation,
Ms. Hughes’ points out, is the
actual demonstration of different
traffic-pedestrian situations,
whether they are acted out in the
classroom or on some street
corner.
The idea is to make such an
impression on the youngster that

DEAR HELEN:
A friend is always borrowing

she runs out of shopping, and
what can I do when she has

I’m embarrassed, too, to
remind her of the loan: she never

me $16.35.
Since she’s so lackadaisical
about finances, I figured the best
way to get some of my losses was
to borrow from her, then
“forget.”
I did. Two days later she asked
for the money and like a dummy,
I handed it over.

DEAR HELEN:
Some time ago you asked for a
word that would describe the
mate in & live-together
arrangement. How about making
& noun out of the verb “con-
solidate”? This means essen- •
tially “to gather resources of
value, and to bring together
elements of worth." So, “This is
my consolidate, Joe” would in-
troduce one’s friend, lover,
sharer of apartment, as half of a
solid relationship.
Incidently, “Joe” is really my
husband, so I don’t need the term.
- GRACE
DEAR HELEN:
Another couple and my
husband and I watched a
television show about swingers. I
was shocked at this mate ex-
change business, but the other
couple just exchanged glances.
Later they told me they
belonged to a swinger's club.
Sometimes they went just to
dance and talk, but if they met
people that attracted them .
sexually, “something might
happen.”
My Husband thinks this would
be a good way to put zip in our
union, which isn’t the greatest. I
mean we’re kind of bored with
each other.
Should I overcome my moral .
principles for the sake of my
marriage? The television in-
terviewees insisted swinging cuts

about your sampling around, and
no jealousy enters in. — W.C.
DEAR W.:
If your marriage is dull and
boring, it won’t be helped by
swinging. Don't believe
everything you hear from ad-
vocates who hope to enlarge their
circle of choices. — H.
