With the offensive line doing a great job of blocking and
the one-two-three scoring punch of fullback Roosevelt Leaks
plus the passing of quarterback Bill Nutt to split end Larry
McDonald accounting for six touchdowns, the unbeaten Bren-
ham Cubs defeated Bridge City’s Cardinals, 40-12, Saturday
night in Spring Branch to capture the bi-district championship
An estimated crowd of 8,500 -- believed to be the largest
to ever see a Cub team play....watched from the beautiful
surroundings of Darrell Tully Stadium as Brenham racked
up its 12th straight win and earned a state quarterfinal berth
against the undefeated West Columbia Roughnecks.
The Roughnecks picked up stanza for a 14-6 halftime
their 11th victory without a margin. The Cubs came roar-
