The Public-Spirit of Our Fine EHS Band
By DREW PEARSON
The Merry-Go-Round
WASHINGT ON. Dec. 2.—Lob-

want to know who’s “in” at the
White House are preserving the
guest list of the White House
dinner for Princess Margaret.

That fine Ennis High School Band con-
tinues to endear itself to the citizenry, as
it assists with outstanding community
events.
As you pick up programs, you note this
interest.
For example, it’s to lead the Christmas
Parade and Santa Party feature here Sat-
urday.
Then, Dec. 12 our award-winning band
is to be one of the mainstays on the pro-
gram for the dedication of our doubled-in-
size and highly modernized postoffice.

Ennis Daily News:
I agree with Mrs. F. R. Ram-
sey’s letter on “Pierce Park”.
It is a disgrace, not only to the
City of Ennis, but to our boys
who fought and died for our
country.
Ennis does so much for other
things, why not move the monu-
ment to some beautiful spot,
where our citizens would not be
ashamed for our neighboring
cities to see?
It made me feel very sad
Veterans’ Day, as I sat in my
car, and looked at the one lonely
wreath by the monument which
was surrounded by parked cars
and one fire hydrant.
I had two sons in World War
II and I have a son in Germany
at this time.

as a stag. He’s taken a house
in West Virginia, and may run
for Congress later.
Perhaps to offset the Rocke-
fellers—the guest list featured
Secretary of Labor Bill Wirtz
and' his assistant, Bill Reynolds
with wives, Gussie Busch III of
the St. Louis Anheuser - Busch
beer fame—along with Peter
Duchin, the New York orches-
tra leader.
Most significant of all—how-
ever, was the blackout given the
the press in contrast to t h e
welcome mat given the TV net-
works. Only two newspaper
couples were invited—Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Millis of The New
York Herald Tribune and the
Bill Whites.
In contrast—all three net-
work presidents were at the
dinner Leonard Goldenson of
ABC, Bob Kintner of NBC and
Frank Stanton of CBS — despite
the fact that they had all at-
tended other White House din-
ners within the last three
months. Also invited were Rob-
ert Pierpoint, CBS—and Ray
Scherer, NBC.
The networks have been all-
out for the President. The news-
papers have been more aloof.
At his last wedding anniversary,
the 30th—Lyndon invited Joe
Alsop—a frequent critic, and
Mrs. Katherine Graham—inde-
pendent publisher of The
Washington Post. Both contin-
ued to be independent, some-
times critical. They were not
asked again this year.
NOTE—The networks are go-
zed to be local—not with the O’- i -
Neil family in New York. 9

The Secretary of State said
he would talk to the President—
which he did—and came back a
day later to say that both he

Morse that he had had attended

U. S.
"I always want to be in a
position of being able to push
our country’s policy,” Morse

express disagreement. I am not
going.”
That ended that. The Senator
from Oregon was asked’ to
