reached Atlanta on Monday and during

and supply ear were placed on the main
line near thoMarUiam house. A.Oro-
ser the paymaster and Ids clerk accom-
panied tlio car. Mr. Grosrr expected to
bo moved early this morning. About 3
o'clock lie awoke and found the cars In
full motion. Thoy wcro moving at the
rate of 40 miles nn hour. The rapid
speed aroused his suspicion. Ho arose
and opened the car ami put the brake on.
The train was moving up a strep grade
and the brakn soon brought It to a stand
still. Mr. Oroser then climbed up on
tlio supplv car ami approached the
engine". When ha had made half the
distance he observed a man climbing
out of tlio engine. "Where are you tak-
Intr me?" demanded Oroser. "To the
belt Junction." was the answer. "Kor
what?" Mr. Oroser asked. "You will

we want" was the reply. At the tame
time tho man began ilrlng at Mr. Oroser.

bridges on the Lake Erie and Western
railroad wcro swept awuy. The dam-
age to railroads crops buildings nnd

000. The Mackinaw railroad within one
hour was submerged and- thousands of
acres of promising corn nnd thousands
of shocks of newly cut grain were Hooded
and carried nway. Seve'al bridges weio
Hooded nnd carried nwnv. Several
bridges on tlio l.ako Erie railroad were
washed out together Willi half of the
track at Haybrooks. At Koppa on the
Illinois Central the wator rose 10 feet
within an hour and at Selma the $.1000
bridge across the Mackinaw was swept

emphatically deny claiming it Is a ruse
concocted on the part of the drovers
and further that Inspector Armstrong
has not had sitlllclent time to go from

stock; that tho distance from Fort Ileno
to where the cattle were held Is over 100
miles and that It would bo Impossible
for him to havo gone there since receiv-
ing his nfllclal orders from the Secretary

sensation by marrying a New Yorker
who soon after trice to kill himself by
opening n vein In his arm with a pocket
knife followed the example of her hus-
band by trjlng to kill herself also but
adopting n dllfercnt method. In lieu of
cold steel she used morphine. Mrs. Mc-
I'herson or Kngllsli Maud as she Is gen
erally called by the demi-monde left
her recently acquired husband a short
time since and returned to her former
haunts or Infamy from which she had
been taken by Mcl'berson. Tho Inmates
of Fort Allen where this unfortunatn
girl resided did not discover tlio fact

about 3 o'clock this morning

and found the poor creature In n coma-
tose condition. Alarmed at her appear-
ance she Immediately commun'cated the
state of the woman to the other

she had taken with such rash Intentions

ing is much Improved. The alleged
causo of tha suicidal attempt Is that she

San Antonio and Aransas Pnss railway

bridge across that stream anil work will

tension Is necessary In order to make a
connection with tha International and
Oreat Northern railway and also Is on
tlio line of tho proposed northwestern
extension. It will thus ho seen that
th'nus are taking shlp-shnpo and that
everything will soon bo ready to receive
ho shipments of Iron nnd begin track
laying. This will probably wipe out the
last doubt from tho incredulous. Tha
Snn Antonio and Aransas 1'nes railroad
Is assured beyond doubt.
