Vaiiimhii February il. The topic
of the week has been the visit of .Mr.
ltandall nnd Speaker Carlisle to Allinny
to confer with the President-elect. The
quid mines have been kept busy discuss-
Ing and prophesying the cause and ef-
recUr the visit but sO far they are all
In the dark As was to be expected
Mr. ltandall declines to make public tbe
nature or his conference with Mr. Cleve-
land and Mr. Carlisle will undoubtedly
be equally reticent. It may be assumed
however that the conversations related
lo political umiinireiuent especially with
regard lo those matters with which the
Speaker of the House and the leader on
the lloor have so inucli lo do. The Dem-
ocratic parly Is undoubtedly In'a posi-
tion at the time which requires the
iilcest'jitdgment nnd It Is very desirable
therefore that all should be done that
can be done to make the transition on
the 1th of March as smooth as possible.
There will be n considerable Jolt in any
ent but by careful driving the danger
of upset will be greatly lessened.
Congress can help or hinder the new
administration by Its record this winter
nnd hence lis transactions have a per-
nonal Interest lor Mr. Cleveland and are

'l ite President-elect would scarcely as-

fill utlenllun; such que'stlons for In-
stance as the tarlllthe reorganization
uf the nn vy and the civil service
Apropo of an extra session thus
seems mi real occasion for the expense
and turmoil Inevitably resulting from
an extra fessiou of Congress under the
peoitllar circumstances which will exist
after the 4lh proximo. Ills true only

dustriously utilized nnd eked with even-

propriation bills can be gotten out or
the way before tbe end or the session If
members will discourage dilatory pro-
ceedings nnd give the cold shoulder to
long winded orators. And there will be
quite time enough for tbe passage or
other Important measures now pending
between the two Houses. Congress
could astonish Itself and gratify the
country by n few days or quiet close
continuous application to business. The
majority In the House would then be
able to agree upon n line ot actlou and
taking Ihu bit In Its mouth could push
right along on that line.

lH-i Bm We have se rcted. In tbe

In the San Carlos mountains valuable
leads or silver ore. These researches
have been made by parties or life-long
experience In opening and operating
mines in some or meainiesoi iiie.iiiier-
Ican Union. The same tiartr has been
constantly In the mountains of Mexico
since May 18S2 and baa made valuable
discoveries and has tbe mines already
"denounced" rrom tne. Mexican uorern-
ment as the sclentltlo discoverer and Is
now upon snch "denouncements'' In full
and complete possession put so by the
Mexican Government. These mines nre
unprecedentedly rich regular llasure
veins which grow rloher the lower they
sink Into the earth. The ores assay from
$160 to the ton nnd upwards. Wood and
water are anunuanr an arounu ine
mines. The crude bullion can be ship-
ped to Kngland without duty on
through bills of lading from Monterey
at about the same rates of freight as to
New York.
A ten-ton engine smelter and fixtures
will cost about $0000 laid down and ex-
pense In setting up and getting ores
coal etc. and all tbe works in full blast
added say $3000 to $1000. After this tbe
mines and machinery will be seir-sus-talnlng
and the profits yield abundantly.
To uuitnarlzo ns follows: Ten tons ir
crude ore at $100 to ton (rar below low-
est estimate of value or ore) we have
crude bullion valued at mines $1000;
from one day's run at all expense of not
over $30 all told. Tbls bullion Is run
out Into 80 pounds pig silver and lead
which the Mllmos will advance upon In
Monterey at tbe rate of $2 per pig. Out
or ten tons one day's run (24 hours)
we can have 230 pig bars of bullion
which landed In Monterev we can ob-
tain nn advance upon or $2 which will
make the product of the works about
$500 per day at lowest estimate one-
third value or Its products.
This is what Is now being done 73
miles this side where the ore Is badly
mixed with base metal.
For tbe money put In to buy and estab-
lish the machinery abote named wo will
give one-third or all the net products of
the mines a full one-third Interest In
the mines worked.
We have an experienced smelter one
or 25 years' experience lo go In charge
orthe works; one good engineer to run
the machinery nnd the balance or the
lakor cheap.
Can get charcoal rurulshed at the
smelter for St per cargo orsoo pounds
nnd get the bullion hauled to Monterey
for $1 per cargo or 300 pounds a distance
or 160 miles.
This Is all It will take to iret works In

Know wnat mines anil minerals are.

V the past 111 years has already established for Itself reputation as the slm-
plest having the fewest working parts tbe most durable belogconstruct-

r j'i' feet in the distribution of Ink as well as In Its register as Is shown by Its
almost exclusive use on colored label work. It Is tbe easiest running and cheap-

question. This Is conceded by all fair men. 'llie saving on paper Ink rollers
