Monday. November 3. 1884.
Votk for Blaine and Logan.
Stand by the Teople's ticket.
Don't swap votes -with tbo rlngsters.
A. 11. Noirrox will be defunct nfler to-
morrow. Ko tears.
Look out for fraudulent tickets In the
Interest of tbe ring.
Shall 1500 Mexicans rule llexar and
dictate county officers.
JIlaixe will be elected and tbe Demo-
crat! will get Into a general muss.
IIlaixk will poll double as many votes
In Texas as the Ilourbons concede to
him.
The anti-Ireland men of 1881 will bold
tbe winning cards In 18S0 nnd dictate
terms.
The way to break up a wicked and
corrupt ring Is to vote against it nnd Its
nominees.
ItEWAUE of electioneering falsehoods
and frauds put afloat on election day by
tbe ring and Its creatures.
Fayettc Walker has not proved much
of & decoy duck for the ring. Tbe col-
ored voters "smell a rat" very loudly.
The country precincts will roll up
good majorities for the I'eople's ticket.
The city should not be behind hand In
the good work of deliveranco from mls-ro-e-
Vote for Judge Hector the protection
candidate for Congress and do that
much towards the protection of tho
sheep and other Interest sof the West-
ern country.
The Feople'i ticket rises In favor each
day. The ring Is hourly losing ground
as well as courage and Is In a pitiable
condition. The I'eople's ticket Is bound
to win the victory In Bexar county.
The air Is full of rumors to the effect
that some of the ring nominees are se-
cretly trying to secure their own elec-
tion by slaughtering men on the same
tloket. This Is what has been looked
for.
Ik Texas the people will In future
vote so as to promote their local Interest.
This will settle the bosh of tbe Demo-
cratic party of the past and bring forth
a new party with progressive Ideas and
alms
Jonax XoosiM will receive the vote
of every citizen who desires to see a
non-partlzon Judge seated on the bench.
Mr. Uonston Is one of the bell weathers
of the ring and Is Its nominee. Don't
forget this fact.
lr Ban Antoxio sets any store by the
wool trade she will poll n large vote for
uuage Hector to at to show her desire to
have the duly of 1807 restored uponwool
Men should not sacrlfloe their Interest
just to please a parcel of wild theorists.
IticiiARD Kelson Is doing his level belt
to elect W. II. Grain to Congress In the
Galveston district and he Is acting In
this matter precisely as the Lioiit ex-
pected he would. Richard Kelson seems
to bo acting In concert with the Demo
crats.
Vote for Judge lteotor for Congress
Mil then you will add.to.the prosperity
of tbe city and the country. lie repre
sents the Idea of protection to all our In'
duilrlcs and should have tbe vote of
every true citizen of San Antonio Irre-
spective of party.
It m wf- tint! nnwlso to discard
Judge Xoonan and take up an untried
man In his place. Mr. Houston has yet
to show tho first qualification for Dis-
trict Judge and of course Is entitled to
no consideration at the bauds of the peo-
ple. Voto for Judgo Xoonan and good
government.
Tin; I.ioiit has no "axe to grind' by
opposing the Turner Hall ticket but Is
guided and Impelled by a tense of pub-
llo duly. The tyranny of a political
ring Is pregnant with ruin to the peo-
ple and for that reason It should be
manfully resitted and uprooted root and
branch by tbo people. Patriotism com-
mon scnto and self Interest demand'
that the Turner Hall ticket shall be
overwhelmed by the Just Indignation of
the people expressed through the ballot
box. This It what tbo people ought
to do.
The railroad to Aransas 1'ass ought to
be pushed forwanl Willi vigor and bo
completed at toon at possible. We
hope tho citizens of San Antonio will
double their tubscrlptloni to the road.
Let tho road be built from San Antonio
southward and It will draw trade from
the start to our city. Knergy and vim
are alone needed to mako San Antonio
the principal city In Texas as the al-
ready possesses unsurpassed natural ad-
vantages. Every citizen should put his
shoulder to tho wheel and do his best to
promolo the growth of our city. "A
ttrong pull n long pull nnd a pull alto-
gether" Is all wo need.
The Light cannot bo damaged ono
stiver by tho election of tho ring ticket
for Bexar county nor be prolltcd ono
cent by tbe election of tlio I'eople's
ticket. It Is pecuniarily Indifferent to
the Light which ticket Is elected. I'cr-
Bonally tbe Liqiit prefers some of tho
persons running on the Turner hall
ticket because Us relations with them
are moro friendly and cordial. Why
then docs tho Light opposo the Turner
hall ticket and advocato the l'eoplo's
nominees? Prom a regard for the pub-
lic welfare and prosperity. Itlng rule Is
a curse under the most favorable circum-
stances. It It n sort of mcpbltlo gas.
1 hat It why the LiaiiT has felt con-
strained to opposo the ring.
The thinking people of Texas have
come to the conclusion that tbo free
trade theories of tho Democrats are ar-
rant humbugs and directly contrary to
tbo best Interests of Texas and they
will soon throw oil the Democratlo yoke
and vote according to common sense.
Western Texas Is largely Interested In
the wool business and cannot afford to
have the wool producing Interest crip-
pled and destroyed by a lot ot political
cranks who close their eyes to reason
and common sense. San Antonio Is the
leading market for wool and Is on that
account deeply Interested In the pros
perity of tbe sheep men. Tho restora
tion of tbe duty of 1807 upon wool would
bo worth over $500000 annually to our
city. Judge Hector Is pledged to voto
for this measure; Mr. Sayers on tbe
other hand Is for a still further reduc-
tion of the duty on wool. Bexar should
roll up 1000 majority for Hector and
prosperity.

MAGNOLIA.
Her Proctlcnl Advice to tho Col-
ored Voters.
Editor San Antonio Light!
Uncle Mack Henson (If be will allow me
to call him by the familiar name I've al
ways been accustomed to use In address"
Ing his race) thinks the term "ought"
should not have been used In my letter
In regard to tbe oolored voter; now
with all due deference to my worthy
frlenc I beg to differ with blra and In
my opinion the negro who will vote to
morrow for the Democratic ticket de-
serves naught but bondage. Tho Idea
that the Democracy hat the cheek to
try to persuade tho colored voter that
they look upon them at "toolally their
equal" it most refreshing. Perhaps
they may hoodwink some ton of Africa
who Is not blessed with good common
seine to vote their ring arrangement
but the solid men who are looking to a
future for tbelr raco will not be to de-
ceived. Perhaps to-day and to-morrow
they will try tbelr beautiful theory of
social equality but after that lookout;
your "equality" will be "get away nig-
f-er don't you try to mix with white
oiks" 1 bono to-morrow (If there Is one
negro so lost to gratitude and all seme
of right and honor) as to vote for Cleve-
land he will be doubled up like a Jaok
knife with the colic for all hit short-
comings. I have no patience whatever
with the black man who la a Democrat
because It It In direct opposition to the
Improvement and advancement of the
colored race. There It no tafety for you
except with the liepubllcan party.
Itemember our sainted Lincoln who
made you free men and never
deviate from tbo party ho represented for
striking tbe shackles from jour limbs
wat tbe ultimate cause of bis assassina-
tion by the reckless and rebel Booth. I
bcllevo In fraternity loyalty and char-
ity but I also believe that n man't first
duty It to secure hit own Interests and
tbotoofthe party who have byword
nnd deed proved themselves the negroos
inalienable friend. There is much I
would like to say but I know now Is not
tbe time as your paper will be filled with
political matters; but we aro on tbe
vergo of a momentous election fraught
with to much of good or 111 to our city
State nnd country. 1 could not forbear
saying these few words to tho colored
voters ttand firm nnd be men nnd not
mere tools of any clique; keen sober bo
quiet nnd acquit yourselves like men by
o doing you will keep tbo confidence of
the Itepuullcan party nnd command tho
respect nnd attention ofyour Democratlo
enemies. I cannot rest In peace till I
know bow the election goes for If
Cleveland Is elected I shall lcavo the
South the land of my girlhood years
never to return. Hove the South with
Its sunny clime but I also love tho He-
publican party whoso motto has always
been onward and upward with equal
rlgbta for all men.
Ko slave beneath that starry flan;
Tho emblem of the free
Ko traitor's band shall lead the band
That smites for liberty.
God's blessing breatha around us
And when all strife Is done
May freedom's light that knows no
night
Make every star a tun
Maunolia.
