some of her own citlicns and many lu tho State to possess tho roqulslto skill In alt ot Its
dellcatoanil varied operations and treatment and since locating hero tho greatest suCoesa baa
crowned his ctfortaand he has won tho enduring gratltudo of hundreds whom he. has treated
from all parts of tho Slate. A few of them am given below aa rnferaoon.
A few remarks In.reganOo thladlscasomay not bo out of place hers aa It Is so common
Nearly all hao tho troutilo at sorao time In the acutrtform and call It a cold. Sometlraaa they
aro aware they hardly get ovet ono cold until they have another. Tho cold or mote properly
speaking the catarrh then becomo sub-acute. Ily neglect this runs Into a chronlo form.
HomellmcslUs loomed lo tho nose; somellmi-s tho throat or Iwth. Bonner or later It affects
lie ears causing frequent ringing or roaring In tbo cars or other notsca. Sometimes violent

greater or lets dcgiec. Very often loo it extendi up through a lltllo duet from tho nose to
one or tho other and even both eye musing soveral different form of diseases of the eye.
Nearly nil are familiar with catarrh In tko form of bronchitis.
Catarrh Inalllti forms and nearly all Itsstnxeaean beenrcd. Ilutpeoplo neglect It and so
do physicians. They neither prcparo themselves with tho Instruments or knowledge sufllctsnt
or tieccawvry to treat this troublcflomo disease as nrulo and tbua people themselves do not
apprehend tho danger they aro In when they consult a physician and be tolls thorn "O! 1U
nothing but a cold." and yet that so-called cold In a vast number ot coses Is tho first start of
deafness blindness loss of smell loss of void of Laryngitis Bronchitis and Consumption.
Any or several of ti esomay follow aud be causod by a neglected cold. Ilelow aro a few name
which I havo pertnUslon;to use who have been treated by me with bencllt for Catarrh In some

only mention ono mora as a romurkablo Instanco of how mucb good can bo done that class or
Incurable so-called Consumptives. O. W. Tyc of Loon Springs had Catarrh for some years
In tho head and throat finally tho luogs beenmo affected and he had several hoomorrhagea and
had a very bad cough becamo much emaciated and a eonllrmod Invalid and was pronounced
by bis physician In tho last and lncurablo stage of consumption. He came to me for treatment

A few words now In regard to the car may not be unlnterestingtto some especially those
who aro sutTerers from varied and numerous forms of disease Very few pcoplo need uaglng
to consult an Aurist when tboy have a dlschargo of matter from It ospoelally If accompanied
by a foul smell yet some will and that too strange aa it may sound In this day of cnllght-
mcnt by advice of physicians but surely It Is novcr dono by one who understands diseases ot
this organ.
it Is a lamor.lable fact that some of tho older physicians (without anypociat knowledge co
this point) havo a prejudice against tho stoppage of purulent discharges from the car but tbl
la boaod upon tho erroneous teaching of old French writors Du Vernoy and lUrd D. li. 8t.
Jehnltoosa M.D. LL.D. Professor ot Diseases of Hyo and Ear In tho University ot New
York City; Burgeon of Manhattan Eyo and Ear Hospital; Consulting Surgeon of Ilrooklyn Eye
and Ear Hospital etc and who Is considered tho very best authority on the sbbject says In his
last work i "Thero Is no pathological oxporlcuco on record which can sustain the assertion
that It la dangerous to stop a discbarge from tho oar." Lctanyono acquainted with anatomy
consider this fact that thero Is perhaps no part of tho human body which has more Important
anatomical relations. Tho cavity of the tympanautn is covered over bra thin bony platey
which la In direct communication with the cerebral meninges; tho floor is closo to tho great
Juglnr Its Internal wall la the labyrinth wall -iverod only by vory thin membrane and open-
ing Into tho branchos of tho acoustlo norvi while on tho outside wo havo a thin membrane
about as thick as paper. It Is easy to soe that a continuous destruction of these parts by sup-
puration unless cured In this part would sooneror later (which It always does) lea to serious
troubles In tho brain and sometimes In tho lungs or heart. I find a largo percentage of the
cases having a "running car" havo also acougb and when tho oar is cured the cough Is also
cured instead ot being worse.
Then .aero la another cla ss of cases that sometimes consult the doctor they complain of
ringing or roaring or other noises In the ear. He tolls thorn tlior have cold and a dose ef
qulnlno perhaps Is given this may be relieved for a time but sooner or later returns but the
sufferer bad his fears allayed by recovering partially from tho first attack and so docs not feel
any anxiety this tlmo and trios tho old remedy again. It falls and so does everything else thoy
try and tbelr friends don't sympathUo as thero Is no oxternal evldonce ot tho sarfering caused
by this condition but this atlcast causes them to hunt up an Aurist who examines the ear
and ho finds tho car perhaps so far gone that It U Impossible to restoro Its full hearing power
and ho must havo great skill Indeed to stop the course of the disease and keep the bearing
from being lost entirely so far do these oases run beforo the pe oplo consult competent skill.
If pooplo would go to tho Aurist overy tlmo anything waa tho mattor with their ears and
not wait to consult physicians and others they would suffer far lees and preserve tbolr hearing
muoli better as noary all the diseases ot this organ are curable osp eclally In the first stage.
Space will only allow a few uames for reference who havo been cured of ear diseases here by
me. Scores mororalght bo added t

Thedlsoasoaol the o)o aro very numerous nearly 00 In number clearly defined and recog-
nized by tho ocull.t all requiring different treatment In order to cure them and restore good
vision. Yet nothing shows the folly of going to the general physician for treatment of this
organ than the fact that ho has only sufficiently studied this complicated organ suffloleatly
to rccognlxo from three to a dozen. It is In this and tho careful application of properly selected
remedies to tho and tho dlfforentaffcctlonsof tho eyo. that the superiority and the success of
tho Oculist consist.
Nearly all the diseases ot tho eye are curablo even In tho severe forms if clearly understood
and properly treated and attended to In the earlier stages before it has had time to dostroror
lnjuro permanently tbo vision. Dut those cases that show blemishes and defect of vision and
blindness so frequently aro cases In which there has boon dolav in seeking an Oculist and N
valuable time was wasted by trying somo domostlo remedies or what Is nearly as bad trying
the ordinary physician.
I do not mean by my remarks above to condemn or criticise the goneral practitioner for
treating Catarrh or diseases ot tbo Evo or Ear that occur in his practice It is his duty to giro
relief to all who aro suffering In anv and overv war possible and no doubt all do tho best they
can. Ilut they will all honestly confess that thev have not the means. In the shape ot tolected
remedies. Instruments nor tho tlmo to acquire the skill and practice to do Justloo to thoso
What I do want everybody to understand is that thero aro a class of specially Instructed and
experienced doctors mon who have devoted money tlmo and study to tbeso partloular parts
or tbo human body. In order to acquire tbe greatest amount of skill In treating. Its affections
and diseases; and people who are suffering with any disease In these organs will as far aa
possible leuover tho bestand fullest useof thoseorgans wbosoek tho specialist the earliest;
and tbe physician will deal honestly with his patrons who gives them such advice.
1 seo in this country many cases ot Strabismus ("crooked eyes" thoy are generally tonned)
which Is a defect In appearance uncertain vision and weakens 1U Nearly every one ot these
cases can bo completely cured and some of them without any operation. Children abould
nover start to school without having tbla remedied.
Eyelids that turn out showing the inside orthoso that turn In and irritate the eye-ball can
all bo perfectly cured. Artificial eyea can bo fitted and worn without any pain and to look
perfectly natural. I havo a large stock of them alwaya on band.
Old granulated lids cured surely.
A fuw namea are given bolow for roferonco that have boen oured by me here. Many more
might bo given If neoessary but these have been selectod because each ono represents a.
different and yet most common form of disease ot tho oye i - .
