The County Judge has received the scho-
lastic returns of 21 counties that are fully or-
ganized. About 19 returns are yet to be
made.
More Hallroad Accommodation.
It is stated that a surveying party left Gon-
zales on Monday to survey the new road from
Gonzales to Harwood thus arranging to give
increased railroad facilities in that section.
New Court House for Floresville.
Colonel Mead of Floresville is in town
and states that now Floresville is selected as
the county seat it intends to maintain its
dignity by erecting a very handsome court
house.
To Aid the Performers.
A performance of Mascotte will be given
at Turner hall for the benefit of the per-
formers. It is reported that the three recent
performances of the same play has left a
balance on the wrong side of the account
book.

A Veil Supported
The British Building and Investment so
ciety met last niirht and was well attended
the shares being liberally taken up. The
Charter Constitution and By-Laws committee
were allowed further time. Considerable dis
cussion followed upon the project and after
a committee had been appointed to wait on
intending shareholders the meeting ad
journed to meet again on Monday next.
Thrown Out of n Wagon
As the family of McDonald who live on
the Brazos were driving along the Castro
ville road this morning the team saw a snake
shied and ran away. Before it could be
stopped the 13 year old daughter named Lula
McDonald was thrown from the wagon and
her elbow was seriously dislocated. The
wagon was also broken before the team was
stopped. The little sufferer was brought into
the city and the dislocated limb set by Dr
Braunnagel. The child is apparently doing
well.
An Unpleasant Rumor.
The citizens were awfully scared last night
by a rumor that the body of Cawley whomur-
dered his mother had been found in th
Water Works reservoir. Cawley was last
uron nur there and there was an halo of
probability about the rumor that make it es
pecially alarming to those who drink hydrant
reflect that he had been drinking water (mm
a reservoir in which a dead man had laid for

following letter to the Hon. J. D. Temple-
ton Atttorney General asking his decision
as to the taxability of shares 1h corporations:
To the Hon. J. P. Tompleton Attornoy Gen-
eral: San Antonio Texas July 23. Dear
Sir: I have been Instructed by mr County
Commissioners' court to submit for your de-
cision the following: Are the shares or
stocks In a corporation owned by private per-
sons assessable for lasts as personal property
of the owners in cases where the corporations
are domiciled here and render for taxation
all their property except shares. In other
words shall a corporation pay taxes on the
property it owns and the shire holders on the
value of the shares they own.
In rendering your decision I respectfully
call your attention to R. S. articles 4669-4671-4681
(4682 subdivision 40) 4740 acts
