of Mercedes has voted bonds in the sum
of $90000 for the construction of a new
high school at that place. The new’
building will be erected on the five-acre
tract nf land on the east side of Ohio
Avenue between Eighth and Tenth
Streets which tract was purchased from
Calvin Green.

er Rio Grande Valley date crop prom-
ises tn bo a record breaker this year
wherever the palms were properly po-
linated last spring. Datos in this sec
tion ripen from four to six weeks earliei
than in California and this fact is on
couraging people of the valley to con-
sider the crop from a commercial stand
point. At present the industry is only
in the experiqiental stage.
