The Missionary Society of the
Travis Park Methodist Church en-
tertained with a colonial tea Friday
afternoon and evening in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Fl tn-
nery. The reception suite was adorn-
ed with plants ivy cut flowers arid
flags. Receiving the guests at the
door were little Cecilia Flannery as
“Martha Washington” and William
Flannery Jr. as "George Washing-
ton.” The members of the society
assisted Mrs. Flannery in dispensing
the hospitalities and in the evening
a large number of the stewards and
their wives assisted.
Red carnations and red-shaded ta-
pers adorned the refreshment table
the tea and coffee services being in
charge of Mrs. S. T. Biggs Mrs. W.
E. Smith Mrs. I. K. Garrett and Mrs.
R. L. Jordan. Assisting them were

The officers and ladies of Fort
Sam Houston entertained with a
“black and white” ball Friday eve-
ning in the post gymnasium. The
spacious hall was beautifully decor-
ated Captain Paul Potter having su-
pervised the work. The ceiling was
overlaid with black and white
streamers radiating from the center
and making a huge sunburst. The
walls were covered with lattice done
in black and white.
Receiving the guests were Major
and Mrs. Howard L. Laubach Cap-
tain and Mrs. Fitzhugh Lee Captain
and Mrs. Hjalmer Erickson Captain
and Mrs. William Smith Captain
and Mrs. E. K. Sterling and Captain
and Mrs. Lewis. The Nineteenth In-
fantry Band played for the dancers.
Mrs. H. W. Gregg's costume was
fashioned of white taffeta with black
cats appliqued. The overdress was
of white net.
Mrs. Roy Campbell wore black jet-
ted net.
Mrs. H. S. Mulliken wore black
and white net and satin with trim-
mings of Jet.
Captain and Mrs. G. M. Allen were
“Dutch peasants.” in white costumes
adorned with strips of black upon
which were appliqued windmills and
fishing boats.
Miss Louise Dunn wore a Pierettr
costume of black and white striped
satin.
Mrs. George W. Dunn was a
French maid in black costume with
white cap and apron.
Dwight Beebe was a Pierot in
black and white striped satin cos-
tume.
Mrs. Clarence LeR. Cole was a
French maid in black costume with
white-frilled cap and apron cuffs
and collar.
Mrs. Dwight I). Eisenhower was a
demure French maid in black from
head to foot with a wee white apron
of lace and organdie.
Lieutenant Eisenhower was a bold
pirate in white with black hat and
black bandanna about his neck.

cord and tassels.
Miss Lieschen Guenther was a girl
of 1860 in white taffeta with trim-
mings of black and with black satin
bag. She wore her hair arranged in
little curls over her ears.

fashioned maiden in white organdie
ruffled frock each ruffle edged with
narrow black velvet. She carried a
white feather fan.
Mrs. Fitzhugh Lee was a Pierette
with black satin bodice and white
satin skirt and white hat trimmed
with black jiom poms.
Captain Lee was a Pierot in white
satin with black pompoms for trim-
mings.
Mrs. Howard L. Laubach wore a
black and white striped costume a

bons.

ger Friday night for the benefit oi
the Red Cross. The affair was a
success in every way. There were
booths where all kinds of pleas-
ing articles were sold and a “firsl
aid” tent where the various appli

Houston was an interesting feature
Drills songs dances and other en-
tertaining numbers were given by
the pupils. A large number oi
prominent women acted as patron-
esses.

Mrs. Carter Griner entertained
with a miscellaneous shower and
“500” party Friday’ afternoon in
honor of Miss Eva Gutzeit. The
rooms were adorned with plants and
white blossoms and green and whit®
streamers. Refreshments were serv-
ed at the conclusion of the games.
