After nine days, county
and state officials an-
nounced the complete con-
tainment of the Pine Pond
Fire on Saturday evening.
The Pine Pond Fire
started on the 500 block
of Old Antioch Road, in
the region between Bas-
trop and Buescher state
parks, on Thursday af-
ternoon, August 11. The
fire quickly expanded
to 700 acres thanks to
wind spreading the fire
to areas with heavy fuel
loads. As of Monday, Au-
gust 15, the fire was 50%
contained and saw no
growth, with heat inside
the fire’s perimeter being
the only fire activity.
Last Tuesday, contain-
ment reached 60%, and
many of the firefighters
and resources working
the fire were released
to help with other fires
across Texas. The remain-
ing people continued to
patrol the fireline, mop
up remaining pockets
of heat and strengthen
containment lines. Even
more resources were re-
leased on Wednesday.
