Two injured in three-vehicle mishap
An accident Saturday at the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Summit Street involved three vehicles and resulted in
two individuals going to the hospital. Shown above are the 2003 Ford F-250 and trailer as well as the 2020 Chevrolet
Equinox after the mishap on the south side of Summit Street (Highway 90).
According to a preliminary report from the Schulenburg Police Department, the accident occurred at 11:30 a.m.
when the driver of the pickup, 66-year-old Gregory D. Langhamer of La Grange, ran a red light traveling eastbound
on Summit and struck a 2016 Ford Transit van heading north on Lyons. The impact caused the pickup to hit the
Equinox, which was stopped at the red light in the westbound lane of Summit Street, according to the SPD report. The
pickup then knocked over a speed limit sign and ran into a utility pole causing power lines to fall, the report stated.
Langhamer and the driver of the van, 47-year-old Jerome L. Nathaniel of Weimar, were uninjured. The driver of
the Equinox, 42-year-old Cesar Lopez, and front-seat passenger, 33-year-old Esmeralda E. Gutierrez of Flatonia,
were both transported by Fayette County EMS to Columbus Community Hospital for possible injuries, according to
the SPD report. The report stated that any injury to back-seat passenger, 2-year-old Jeovanne Lopez, was unknown.
All involved were properly restrained, according to the report. The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department also as-
