20, 1915, in Ross, Tex. to
Mary Elanor Kirkpatrick and
James Alston Hunter. He was a
forensic psychiatrist for Texas
Department of Mental Health
Mental Retardation, serving
as chnical director for 35year s.
He had resided in Rusk for
34 years. He graduated from
West High School in West, Tex.,
Baylor University in 1936,
University of Texas Medical
Branch in Galveston in 1940.
lie served with the U.S. Public
Health Service during World
War H with the rank of Captain

American Medical Association,
the Texas Medical Association,
the Cherokee County Medical
Society, serving as president in
1972, the American Psychiatric
Association and the Texas

He, was preceded in death
by wives, Lucy Eaton Hunter
in August 1965 and Margaret
Elizabeth Hunter on Oct. 1,
1988.
Survivors are his wife, Kay
Hunter of Rusk; children and
their spouses, Molly and Ron

N. J., Jim Hunter of Rochester,

Stringfield, 92, of Poyner was
at 1 p.m. Sunday at Poynor
Baptist Church with the Rev.
Jeff Godwin officiating. Burial
was at Mount Hope Cemetery
at Henderson. Arrangements
were under the direction of
Thompson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stringfield died Oct.
25 in Poynor. She was born
Aug. 2,1909, in Rusk to Mamie
Fain and John Andrews. She
attended Rusk schools and was
president of the last graduating
class from Rusk College before
the college closed during the
Great Depression.
She signed her first teach-
ing contract at age 18 and
later received her bachelor of
arts degree from San Marcos
College,
Mrs. Stringfield taught first
grade most of her career before
retiring in 1972. She taught at
Iron Hill, Rusk, Pert, Neches,
Mount Vernon, Spring Hill and
at LaPoynor, where she spent
a total of 33 years out of her
44 year s of teaching.
She was involved in her com-
munity, serving as secretary
Cleiand Emory Bailey
Cleland Emory Bailey of
Kalamazoo, Mich., formerly
of Gallatin and Rusk died
in September in Kalamazoo.
He was born Oct; 5, 1932. in
Reklaw and grew up in the
Gallatin / Rusk area.
He left the area when he
was 17-years-old to join the
U.S. Army. His military career
started in Fort Riley, Kan.
where he took basic training
before being stationed in Fort
Custer, Augusta, Mich. While
at Fort Custer, he met and
married Elouise Marie Huss
Bailey on Nov. 18, 1950.
Shortly afterward he served
in the Korean War where he
was awarded several medals,
including the Purple Heart for
being wounded during combat.
After his discharge from the
Army in 1954,. he remained

Mrs, Cates died Tuesday in
Nacogdoches. She was born
Nov. 4 1930, in Houston to
Charles H. and Susie Stanley
Nelson. Mrs. Cates lived in
Alto for 30 years and also
lived in Houston for many
years. She was a member of
the Hilltop Baptist Church
and was retired from Rusk
State Hospital after 18 years
of service. She was a member
of the Order of the Eastern
Star No. 54. Mrs. Cates was

William H. Nelson and three
sisters, Elizabeth Milner, Billie
Sue Kulbeth and Martha
Sanders.Survivors are her
husband, John W. (Billy) Cates

Mrs. Gaddis died Oct. 23 at
East Texas Medical Center
Jacksonville. She was born
May 28,1916, inBrushy Creek,
but had resided in Rusk most
of her life. She was a member of
the Memorial Missionary Bap-
tist Church in Rusk and was
a retired I A N at Nan Travis
Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by
her husband. Richard Gaddis;
a son, Bennie Delaney; and a
sister. Alma Ray Hix.
Survivors are two brothers
and sisters-in-law, Bobby Jo
and Loyce Wyhe of Portland
and A.C. and Melba Wyhe of
Gonzalez;; a sister and brother-
in-law, Farley Jean and Wen-
dell Nealey of Greeley, Colo.;
and numerous nieces, neph-
ews, great-nieces and great-
nephews.

Teachers Assn.
She was married to George:
Tipton Sr. and Leon Stringfield
of Poynor, both deceased.
Survivors are a sister, Judith
Andrews Adams of Paris;
nephew Dan Johnson of King-
wood: four nieces, Karol Asey
and Karen Adams of Paris,
Gladys Allen of Beaumont and
Bobbye Brethouwer of Alto.

He is survived by his wife,

Mich, and Paula Jean Beal
of Kalamazoo; a son, Kevin
Charles Bailey of Portage,
Mich.; eight grandchildren and
several great-grandchildren;
two sisters, Ottie Mae McGee
of Rusk and Alice Garbini of
Charlotte, N.C. and several
nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mr. Bailey was preceded in
death by his parents, three
brothers and two sisters. He
is interned in the Fort Custer
National Cemetery in Augusta,
Mich.
a Tyler hospital. He was born
July 31, 1956, in Tyler. He
was an attorney and a member
of Central Baptist Church of
Jacksonville.
Survivors are two daughters,
Halley Micheal Tucker and
Holly Annette Dodson, both of
College Station.
