Kiwanis Report
Linda Little
In any organi-
zation there are
members who
work unself-
ishly year after
year perform-
ing numerous
duties to insure
goals are met,
projects are suc-
cessful, and pa-
perwork com-
pleted. Kiwanis was pleased to
recognize one of its members, Judy
Faye Garner, who has contrib-
uted countless hours towards Ki-
wanis' many community service
projects. She was presented a
plaque of appreciation for her years
of service as Secretary. Judy Faye
is also very active in her church
where she is a member of the choir,
teaches a Sunday school class, and
works with the youth choir. Also
present was Joe Rozelle, Director
of Community Relations at Rusk
State Hospital, and Judy's super-
visor. Mr. Rozelle ended the sur-
prise presentation with his acco-
lades for Judy's work in Kiwanis
and at the hospital.
January's programs consist of
each member sharing their life
stories. Today's presenter is a Wis-
consin native. During World War
II he served in the military and
fought in France, Germany and
Austria. After the war, he at-
tended the University of Texas at
Austin where he graduated with a
degree in pharmacy.
Who is our presenter of the day?
He is your friend and neighbor
who serves the community in many
capacities. Come meet our World
War II veteran and Judy Faye at
our next meeting and be a part of

Consultant is employed
The Rusk City Council approved
expenditures of the Economic De-
velopment Board to employ a con-
sultant to research the possibility
of expanding the Texas Depart-
ment of Criminal Justice Units in
Rusk.
Cost of the consultant will be
approximately $10,000 plus ex-
penses.
Mayor Emmett Whitehead told
the council. "The expenses should
be very minimum." The mayor
promised the council that he would
negotiate a cap on the expenses.
Both Mayor Whitehead and
Lewie Byers, president of the Eco-
nomic Development Board, said
expansion of the existing prisons
would create more job for the Rusk
and surrounding areas.
