82, of Rusk, was at 2:30 p.m. Sat-
urday at the Walnut Grove CME
Church at Mount Enterprise with
the Rev. James Wickware, the Rev.
Joe Harris, the Rev. Freddy Price
and the Rev. Robert Christopher
officiating.
Burial was in Talley Cemetery
under the direction of Southern
Funeral Home of Henderson.
Mrs. Ballard died Aug. 10 in a
Tyler hospice after several months'
illness. She was born Oct. 8,1915,
in Rusk County, where she at-
tended school and lived most of
her life. She had resided in Rusk
for 30 years. She was a domestic
worker and a member of the Wal-
nut Grove CME Church.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, the Rev. Luther
Ballard, also a daughter, Patsy
Rose Virginia Townley
Survivors include two sons,
Leroy Ballard of Rusk and Dr.
Henry Harry Ballard of Prairie
View A&M; two sisters, Mary Ann
Harper of Mount Enterprise and
Mrs. I.D. Harper of Henderson;
seven grandchildren including
Julie, Reisa and Arthena, the chil-
dren ofher deceased daughter; nine
great-grandchildren; one step-
great-grandson and numerous
nieces, nephews and other rela-
tives.

Williams, David Woods, Milton
Phillips Jr. and Lee Edward
Roquemore.

Joe Baker
Funeral for Joe T. Baker, 74, of
Turney, was at 10 a.m. Saturday
at Thompson Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. James E.
Terry officiating. Burial was in
Jarratt Cemetery.
Mr. Baker died Aug. 12. He was
born May 6,1924, in Jacksonville.
He served in the Army during
World War II and was a retired
truck driver. He was a member of
the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
in Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Irene Baker; two brothers,
Claude Baker and Jack Baker; and
two sisters, Blanche Derr and
Bonnie Baker.
Survivors are a son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Bobby Joe and Joetta
Baker of Jacksonville; a daughter,
Barbara Conaway of Jacksonville;
a brother, Jim O. Baker of Bly,
Ore.; seven sisters, Julia Green,
Gertie Dudley, Rachel Meador and
Inez Chandler, all of Jacksonville,
Pearl Henderson of Reklaw, Ruth
Booth ofEldorado, Ark. and Margie
White of Middletown, Calif.; five
grandchildren, Cindy Alexander,
Rebecca Davenport, Doug
Conaway, Josh Baker and Travis
Baker, all of Jacksonville; and
four great-grandchildren, Michael
Baker, Sarah Baker, Brandon Dav-
enport and Dustin Alexander, all
of Jacksonville.
Pallbearers were Hank Corbell,
Mark Gillespie, Ronald Sharp,
James Morris, Ronnie Lewis and
Travis Meador.
Travis Lee Ferrell
Funeral for Travis Lee Ferrell,
42, of Douglass was held at 10 a.m.
Saturday at the Laird-McGill Fu-
neral Home in Nacogdoches with
Rev. Elmer Moore officiating.
Burial was at 3 p.m. in the New
Harmony Cemetery at Tyler.
Mr. Ferrell died Aug. 12 near
Douglass, following a one-car acci-
dent in which his pickup truck
went out of control on the wet
road.
He was born Sept. 19,1955, He
graduated from Bryan High School
and had been employed at Texas
Parks & Wildlife Department at
Rusk/Palestine for 11 years and
three months. He had recently
been promoted to Park Ranger 4.
Mr. Ferrell coached the Douglass
Indians Little League Baseball
team and was vice-president of
the Douglass Baseball association.
Travis Lee Ferrell
He is survived by one daughter,
Kassi Ferrell of Douglass; two
sons, Travis Heath Ferrell ofHous-
ton and Tony Brent Ferrell of
Douglass; his parents, Travis and
Wyvonne Ferrell of Douglass; a
brother, David Ferrell of Beau-
mont; and a sister, Kathy Hatch of
Decatur.
Edie Brooks
Funeral for Edie Brooks, 98, of
Lufkin was at 10 a.m. Saturday in
the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel
at Luikin. Burial followed in the
Old Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Brooks was born Feb. 20,
1900, in Angelina County to the
late Will and Nancy Ann Cherry
Hadaway. She died Thursday, Aug.
13, in a Lufkin hospital.
Mrs. Brooks was preceded in
death by her husband, Garland P.
Brooks in June 1952 and her son,
Charles P. (Jack) Brooks in Janu-
ary 1997.
She was a homemaker, mother
and grandmother. Mrs. Brooks was
a member of the Lancewood As-
sembly of God Church. She had
resided in Lufkin and Angelina
County all of her life.
Survivors are a son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Jesse and Gayle Brooks
of Lufkin; a daughter, Ima Faye
Browning of Lufkin; a daughter-
in-law, Billie Brooks ofLufkin; sis-
ter, Ellen Lee ofLufkin; 10 grand-
children; 16 great-grandchildren;
18 great-great-grandchildren; a
number of nieces, nephews and
other relatives, including those
who reside in Cherokee County.
Pallbearers were Arnel Brooks,
Garland Brooks, Charles Brooks,
Lesley Brooks, Payton Brooks,
Billy Joe Brooks and John Nichols.

Townley, 74, of Alto was at 2 p.m.
in the Alto First Baptist Church

Burial was in the Old Palestine
Cemetery. Arrangements were
under the direction of O.T. Allen &
Son Funeral Home.
Mrs. Townley died Wednesday
in Rusk. She was born Jan. 10,
1924, in Stark, La. to Jim Elbert
and Bessie Durbin Arrant. Mrs.
Townley was a longtime Alto resi-
dent and a homemaker. She had
also lived in Dallas for 25 years.
She was a member of Alto
First Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband,
Marshall Townley of Alto; two sons,
Kenny Townley of Tyler and
Jimmy Don Townley of Alto; one
daugher, Donna Townley of Tyler;
two sisters, Flo Loper of Dallas
and Billie Jean Moore of Dallas;
three grandchildren, Kristy Cara-
way, Kelly Townley and Kyle
Townley.

ompson Moody, 75, of Dialville was

ompson Funeral Home Chapel
with the Rev. Philip Warren and
J.C. Tate officiating. Burial was in
Providence Cemetery.
Mrs. Moody died Aug. 11. She
was born June 1,1923, in Alto. She
was a homemaker and a member
of the Richwood Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband, H.F.
(Bud) Moody of Dialville; a son,
