The Ramie surrender was writ-
ten in Hebrew on a page tom
from a small notebook. It was rm-
conditional capitulation to the
Jewish forces charging in to crush
the last nests of resistance. The
signers were Ismail Nahas, son of
the mayor of Ramie, and Alexan-

Arab Stronghold
Topples As Jews
Win Great Victory
(Special To The Post)
The Arab town of Ramie surrend-
ered completing the Army of
Israel’s greatest victory of the war
which toppled two enemy strong-
holds on the southeast approaches
of Tel Aviv and removed a long-
standing threat to the capital
Ramie, with a normal population
of 15,000, gave up a few hours after
Jewish forces captured Lydda, three
miles to the northeast.
The collapse of resistance at the
two biggest towns the Arabs held
on the coastal plain threw open
the way for the Jewish mobile
forces to sweep down on La,trim
to the southeast. Latrun is the
core of the Arab blockade of the
Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway.
