and his wife lived for a number of
years. He was a member of the
Southern Oaks Baptist Church.in
tyler, a member of the Rotaiy Club
and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
Survivors are his wife, Patricia
Gay Powell of tyler; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Rickey D. and
Marci Powell of Lubbock and Dr.
Gregory S. and JoAnn Powell of
Longview; two brothers and sisters-
in-law, Fred and Sara Powell and
Kenneth and Elizabeth Powell, all
of tyler; and five grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were neph-
ews, Otto Kinsel and deacons of the
Southern Oaks Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie
Lorena Cornelius, 86, of Rusk, was
at 10 a.m. Monday in Wallace-Th-
ompson Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. Dr. W.C. Everett and the
. Rev. Don Copeland officiating.
Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.
Mrs. Cornelius died Saturday in
Rusk.
She was a lifetime resident of Rusk,
a member of First Baptist Church in
Rusk and the T.E.L. Sunday School
Class.
She is survived by two sons and
daughters-in-law, Charles and Helen
Cornelious, and Billy and Dorothy
Cornelius, all of Rusk; one daugh-
ter, Lois Harris of Rusk; one sister,
Ada Ridgeway of Longview; seven
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchil-
dren; three great-great-grandchil-
dren; nieces, nephews; and cousins.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

John M. Reece
Services for John M. Reece, 86 of
Alto, were Saturday at O.T. Allen &
Sons Funeral Home chapel in Alto
with the Rev. Odis Bryan officiating.
Burial was in Simpson Cemetery,
near Wells.
Mr. Reece died Thursday at a Jack-
sonville hospital.
I He was born March 26, 1909, in
Malakoff to John Middleton and
. Martha Wilson Reece. He resided in
Alto most of his life, was a mechanic
m and worked 20 years for Cherokee
County in Precinct 2 and a member
of Primrose Baptist Church.
He was the second child of six
children. He came to Cherokee Co.
December 24,1921, at the age of 12.
He and his family spent their first
night in Alto, in a wagon. They lived
in several communities, and he at-
tended school from Wells to Alto.
In 1931 he married Susan Oliver.
Mr. Reece was preceded' in death
by his wife of 57 years, Susan Reece,
a grandson, Mitch Jackson, three
sisters, one brother, and two sons-
in-law.
Survivors include two daughters
and one son-in-law, Ann and L.M.
Jackson, Centerfeild, and Jerry
Blackmon, Alto; one son and daugh-
ter-in-law, John Milton and Sue
Reece, Alto; one sister, Ms. Emma
Lee Reece, Alto; 9 grand children
and 11 great grand children and
several nieces and nephews.

Funeral for Meddie Aline Goff, 91,
of Rusk was at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the
O. T. Allen & Son Funeral Home
with the Rev. Bud Bonner officiat-
ing. Burial was in Lynches Chapel
Cemetery.
Mrs. Goff died Sunday in a Rusk
nursing home. She was bora Jan. 8,
1904, in Alto to Mart and Betty Pyle
Landrum. Mrs. Goff has lived most
of her life in Alto, where she was a
homemaker. She had lived in Rusk
for the last 16 years. She was a
member of the Campground Baptist
Church.
Survivors are two daughters and
sons-in-law, Evangeline and J.B.
Bowden of Rusk and Marceline and
Preston Lively of Garland; two step-
Bons and step-daughters-in-law, Joe
R. and Annie Hendrick and Dick
and Oneta Hendrick, all of Diboll;
four grandchildren; five grept-grand-
children; one great-great-grandchild;
and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included Don
Hendrick, Garry Hendrick, Ronnie
Hendrick, John Paul Dixon, Ken-
neth Korges and Keith Korges.

Funeral for Shirley Barnett
Morris, 59, of the Elm Grove com-
munity was at 2 p.m. Friday in the
Elm Grove Baptist Church with the
Rev. Greenie Phillips, the Rev.
Herman Martin, Elder Robert
Owens and Overseer Harold
Edwards officiating. Burial was in
Plainview Cemetery at Ponta under
the direction of McGowan Funeral
Home of Kilgore.
Mrs. Morris died Saturday in a
tyler hospital. She was bora April 6,
1936, in the Elm Grove community.
She was a member of the Church of
the Living God, where she served as
president of the Mission Society,
president of the choir and youth
president. She was an employee of
Rusk State Hospital.
Survivors are her husband, Ed-
ward CharleB Morris of Elm Grove;
seven children, Sharon Barnett
PhillipB, Doris Bell, Patricia Morris,
Charles Edward Morris, Regene
Morris, Melinda Morris and Carla
Morris, all of Rusk; her mother,
Gladys Barnett of Rusk; a brother,
Wayne Barnett of Dallas; 13 grand-
children; a great-grandchild; two
sons-in-law; a daughter-in-law; and
nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and
cousins.
Pallbearers were Clyde Session,
Chester Session, James Bell, Der-
rick McDuff, Elvis Nelson and
Fletcher Session.
Honorary pallbearer* were
Sherman Johnson, Ronnie Johnson,
Dwayne Johnson, Johnny Avant and
Paul McDuff.
Louie Edwards
Funeral for Louie J. Edwards, 89,
of Sardis, was at 1 p.m. Friday at the
Sardis Baptist Church with the Rev.
Charles Haley and the Rev. William
Snidow officiating. Burial was in the
Sardis Cemetery under the direc-
tion of Wallace-Thompson Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Edwards died Wednesday,
May 10, in East Texas Medical Cen-
ter Rusk.
She was bora Jan. 24, 1906, in
Sardis and was a life long Sardis
resident. She was an nurse's aide
and a member of the Sardis Baptist
Church.
Mrs. Edwards was preceded in
death by her husband, France J.
Edwards in 1977 and by three sons,
Floyd Edwards in 1925, Glen
Edwards in 1963 and Carmon
Edwards in 1973.
Survivors include a sister, Lenora
Dear of Aubrey; a grandson and
granddaughter-in-law, Richard and
Vickie Edwards of Sardis; two grand-
daughters and grandsons-in-law,
Patrica and Don Jones of Sardis and
Deborah and Wayne McWhorter of
Arlington; eight great-grandchil-
dren; two great-great-grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Grace Davis, 91, New
Summerfield, were Saturday at the
Thompson Funeral Home chapel in
Jacksonville with the Rev. Dr. Edwin
Crank officiating.
Burial was at the McDonald Cem-
etery.
Mrs. Davis died Thursday in a
Jacksonville hospital.
She was bora Aug. 23, 1903, in
Cherokee County and was a lifelong
resident of New Summerfield. She
was a homemaker and a member of
the First Baptist Church, New
Summerfield.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death
by her husband of 65 years, Lewis
W. Davis, in February, 1995.
Survivors include two sons and
daughters-in-law, Charles and Bar-
bara Davis, Ellicott City, Md. and
Gerald and Mary Nell Davis, Shreve-
port, La.; two daughters and a son-
in-law, Shirley Davis, Houston, and
Linda and Vernell Jones, Mount
Selman; one brother, Cecil Hender-
son, Shreveport, La.; one sister, Dor-J
othy Lyon, Rusk; one brother-in-law,;
S. L. Davis, New Summerfield; two J
sisters-in-law, Ima Carney and'
Jewell Benoit, both of New;
Summerfield; eight grandchildren; •
15 great-grandchildren; and several;
nieces and nephews.
