Church
to unite
in prayer,
giving
By: DON CRAWFORD
On Nov. 9, 1989 the Berlin Wall
came down. Its collapse dramati-
cally symbolized the wave of eco-
nomic, social, political and spiritual
change that is rolling across Cen-
tral and Eastern Europe. These
changes caught the world by sur-
prise. People in the churches of
Christ have been asking the ques-
tion, "How can we respond to such
an opportunity?"
Through a series of meeting with
Missionaries in the European coun-
tries that have been effected by this,
a decision reminiscent of the collec-
tion the Apostle Paul gathered from
among the churches from destitute
Christians in Judea, the churches
of Christ have set Apr. 29 as a
Worldwide Day of Prayer and Giv-
ing for Eastern Europe and the
Soviet Union.
This is an "unprecedented chal-
lenge" in terms of its goal and the
churches' unity of purpose in meet-
ing that goal. More than 9.000
churches and two million Christians
are being asked to join together in
this historic event
"As Christians, we who are lo-
cally involved, believe that the Lord
will bring a tremendous victory
through this effort because of the
willing hearts and hands that have
joined around the world to helpraise
the Cross of Christ," says Don
Crawford, pastor of Rusk Church of
Christ.
Church activities
