we're
at work
when the sun
goes
r
Lights begin to twinkle across the countryside.
Lamps light up farmyards, light streams from
the windows of houses, street lights wink on
in small towns. Rural American keeps on
working.
It wasn't always so. Before the rural electrifica-
tion program, rural areas were dark after sun-
down. The work went on, but by candlelight
and kerosene lamp.
Today, rural America lights up after sundown,
because small groups of tenacious, determin-
ed rural residents—farmers, shopkeepers,
retirees, teachers and preachers—formed
consumer-owned rural electric systems like
ours to bring electricity to the countryside. It
was tough work to turn on the lights in rural
America. It's still not easy and our job is far
from finished. We must upgrade and improve
lines, serve new consumers, repair and
replace equipment. But we'll keep work-
ing . . even after the sun goes down.

Theatre names cast
Cast for "Crimes of the Heart" to
be presented in late April by the
Cherokee Civic Theatre has been
named by Director Billie McVicker.
Mrs. McVicker says the cast will
include Pauline Curry of Alto play-
ing "Lenny Magrath;" Judy Baker
of Jacksonville as "Chick Boyle;"
Linda Beach of Jacksonville as "Meg
Magrath;" PhylliB Drake of Jackson-
ville as "Babe Botrelle;" Steve Logan
of Alto as "Lloyd Barneette;" and
Jerry Parker of Rusk as "Doc Por-
ter." Pat Haddock is serving as
assistant to the director.
Mrs. McVicker says "Crimes of
the Heart " is "a play, written by
Beth Henley, which won the Pulit-
zer Prize and the New York Drama
Critics Circle Award. It is an aston-
ishing first play presented by the
Actors Theatre of Louisville, then
off Broadway and then on Broad-
way, where it established the au-
thor as a major new voice in the
theatre. Warm hearted, irreverent,
zany and brilliantly imaginative,
the play teems with humanity and
humor as it examines the plight of
three young Mississippi sisters
betrayed by their passions.The sis-
ters are all different, but the love for
each other shines through like a
beacon. The play has heart and wit
and as John Simon of the New York
Times wrote 'it would certainly be a
crime for anyone interested in the
theatre to miss thiB play.'"
