Chamber Is Selling
Banquet Tickets
Herman (Moon) Mullins,
a much sought after
speaker, has been secured
for the Chamber's annual
Membership Banquet, ac-
cording to Chamber
secretary, Ms. Gloria Jen-
nings.
The function will be held
at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 in Pet-
ticoat Junction.
Tickets for $7.50 are now
available at the banks,
SESCO and Rusk Federal,
according to Ms. Jennings.
Mullins is a salesman,
rancher and speaker
humorist. He was reared in
the East Texas oil field. He
is a graduate of Carlisle
high school and earned
bachelor's and master's
degrees at Stephen F
Austin State University.
He is a former teacher and
coach. Since 1963 he has
been an insurance
salesman. He also owns
and operates a cattle ranch
near Laneville.

East Side BC Reorganizing Education Plans
Gallatin Slates
Halloween Carnival
The public is invited to a
Halloween Carnival at 6
p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 in
the Community Center at
Gallatin.
The event will offer
homemade chili, hot dogs,
chili dogs, sweets, tea,
coolaid and peanuts. Ac-
tivities will include a fish
pond, apple bobbing, cake
walk, bingo and a quilt auc-
tion.
Dress code for the night
is "tacky." Everyone is
welcome to attend and
share the fun.
MINI A-CAT-A-ME NEWS
1 wish to welcome Mrs.
Janice Wilburn to my staff.
Mrs. Wilburn is teaching
the Nursery School Class.
Mrs. Wlburn comes to us
from Houston where she
has had a number of years
experience working with
children.

donated by Dan New, pictured, to the Rusk Quar-
terback Club for a donation giveaway prize. The
club is accepting donations for the calf or '150. The
prize will be awarded before the final Rusk home
game of the season against Teague Nov. 7.

Congressman Sam B.
Hall Jr., announced today
that the Farmers Home
Administration has ap-
proved a loan in the
amount of $280,000 to the
Craft-Turney Supply Cor-
poration for their water
system.
This FmHA loan will run
for 40 years at 5 percent in-
terest and will be used to
expand the existing water
system to benefit 1,430
regular users.

The annual Maydelle
PTA Halloween Carnival
will be held beginning at
5:30 p.m. Friday at the
Maydelle School.
According to Fay Jor-
dan, PTA president, ac-
tivities will begin with a
chili and barbeque supper
The coronation of a Queen
and King at 7 p.m. will kick
off the opening of carnival
booths.
The list of fun things to do
includes a spook house,
grab bag, bingo, a general
store where handmade
items and canned goods
will be sold, a shooting
gallery, basketball throw,
also a puppet show and doll
walk.
"Come out and enjoy the
carnival with us," says the
Maydelle PTA president.
Bike-A-Thon
Scheduled
The Board of Directors
for the American Cancer
Society in South Cherokee
County is sponsoring a
Bike-A-Thon on Sunday,
Nov. 2.
The Bike-A-Thon will
begin at 1 p.m. at Teacher
Credit Union.
A mid-afternoon snack
will be provided for the
riders. Grand prize for the
rider turning in the most
money is a 10-speed
bicycle.
Entry forms may be
picked up at Flowers
'N'Things, or at the three
Rusk schools.
Everyone is encouraged
to pick up an entry form,
get pledges and come out to
ride!
East Side Baptist Church
is in the process of
reorganizaing its
educational program to
meet the demands of the
church's growth during the
past few years.
Harry Pesnell, recently
retired assistant pastor at
Central Baptist Church in
Jacksonville, is working
with all the church
organizations as minister
of education.
Pesnell has been in the
pastorate for 45 years in
Texas, mostly in the Austin
and Victoria areas. He
graduated from Baylor
University and took his
theological degree from
Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary in
Ft. Worth.
Sunday School teachers at
East Side were challenged
to "learn your work and
become the best trained
teachers in the area," at
the first of a series of con-
ferences to be led by
Pesnell.
Personal conferences
have also been scheduled
with each department in
the Sunday School in order
to establish individual

possibilities and challenge
themselves in their work."

To Rep. Emmett H. Whitehead
Dear Emmett,
At the beginning of the last decade, there were about 745 employees at Rusk
State Hospital. A new employee at that time started at '326.00 per month. As
of September, 1980, there were over 1500 employees, and a new employee
started at $610.00 per month. The improvements in working conditions and
salary for Rusk State Hospital employees has resulted in a very large part by
your tireless and effective efforts on our behalf in the Legislature.
By improving the lot of the State employees, you have helped to provide bet-
ter and more humane treatment for the patients at Rusk State Hospital.
Because of the improvements in quality of care, the citizens in the area served
bv Rusk State Hospital ran rest assured that friends and relatives served here
will receive decent care.
We feel that we all owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude for your years of
diligent labor. On behalf of the grateful employees of Rusk State Hospital, we
wish you Godspeed and continued happiness and success.
