Elm Grove Youth Choir in Concert
Elm Grove Youth Hold
First Annual Banquet
A year of "fun and
fellowship" was culmin-
ated Friday evening when
the Elm Grove Youth
Association celebrated at
their first annual banquet.
The Rev. Robert Chris-
topher was banquet
speaker, taking his topic
from the Biblical admoni-
tion for youth to honor their
father and mother. Youth
members of the organiza-
tion participated in the
banquet program, which
began at 7:30 p.m. at the
American Legion Hall in
Rusk.
The evening began with
an opening prayer by Thur-
man Hampton, sponsor of
the Elm Grove Youth
Association. Following the
meal, Miss Sharon Barnett
welcomed members and
visitors. The Elm Grove
Youth Choir presented
musical selections, includ-
ing "Walk in the Sunlight,"
"Jesus Said He Would Send
the Comforter," "Down
Through the Years," and
"We've Come This Far By
Faith."
Ray Christopher intro-
duced the speaker and Miss
Gwenda Sanders reported
on the activities of the
youth. The sponsor recog-
nized visitors present.
Those presented with
awards for their efforts in
various organization act-
ivities included Sponsor
Thurman Hampton, Mrs.
Lula Hampton, Mrs. Floyd
Stafford and Mrs. Ray
Jean McDuff. Youth
association officers were
also recognized, including
Ray Christopher,
president; Miss Gwenda
Sanders, vice president;
Miss Patricia Morris,
Alto Bride
Is Honored
With Shower
Mrs. Clifford R. Harris,
'nee Marilyn S. Simmons of
Alto, was honored with a
miscellaneous tea shower
Saturday, Feb. 9 in the
home of Mrs. Emal Rogers
in Alto.
Guests were greeted
between the hours of 3 p.m.
and 5 p.m. by the honoree;
Mrs. Jack Harris, mother
of the groom and Mrs.
Rogers. Miss Rennee
Rogers of Tyler registered
the guests.
The Valentine theme was
used throughout for the
wedding shower. Corsages
for the honoree and mother
of the groom were red,
white and pink carnations
with red hearts and
ribbons.
The refreshments table
was covered with a cloth of
white eyelet. Silver and
crystal appointments were
used. The centerpiece was
of red and white carnations
and tulips accented with
red hearts. Refreshments
served included heart
shaped mints, toasted
pecans, orange glaze nuts,
petit fours, fruit punch and
coffee. Misses Karen and
Jame Peterson of Alto,
cousins of the bride, served
the refreshments.
Gifts to the couple were
displayed in the bedrooms
of the home.
