This happened in 1911 or 1912. One lonely night me,
Simon Bowman, and Tildee Woods (the mother of Pine Grove
Baptist Church), was coming from Simon's house. He was
going to see his sick daughter. As we passed this house,
we passed some big oak trees and all at once a great noise
came from the trees. It sounded like a lot of chains fell
out of those trees. We was so excited and scared we could
not run. So Aunt Tildee said, "Don't run." Simon Bowman
said, "Lord, have mercy." We just stood there and I just
didn't know what to do. I was just a girl and had never
been through that experience before.
This happened on a farm by Dan Chadwick, Bud Boyce,
and Mattie lived. They lived on Sammie Chadwick place,
one of the boys of Dan Chadwick. My uncle Dick Crawford,
lived with Bud Boyce, and waited on an old man. His son
Henry Crawford came to find Boyce to go with him to see
if they could see a ghost. They came back to the house,
went on to bed, when all at once, the bells started ring-
ing, dogs started hollering, and barking. The cows start-
ed lowing, every horse and cow came out of the lot, and
the cows came out of the cow pen. The girl that cooked
for the Chadwicks was Mama Carrie. The bell started ring-
ing again and a drove of goats came in the house.
Mrs. Katie Holt is another person who heard unex-
plained things.
