27th Battalion Texas State Guard July, 1943. To the Citizens of Fort Worth, Greetings: Perhaps you are not entirely familiar with the Texas State Guard, its origin, composition, and objectives. We believe that if the citizens of Fort Worth had been familiar with these facts, our growth would have been more rapid and our enrollment would have at least been on a par with that of Dallas and Houston. Each of these cities at this time have four infantry battalions in the Texas State Guard. It is our purpose this week to fully acquaint the public with facts pertaining to the 27th Battalion of the Texas State Guard. This is so that you will know who we are, what we are, what we are doing, what we hope to do, and what we are directed to do by our commander-in-chief, the Governor of the State of Texas, in the interest of Home Defense. This intensive publicity program is being sponsored and paid for by friendly merchants, manufacturers and indi- viduals of Fort Worth, to whom we are truly grateful. We believe that with these facts at hand your patriotism will prompt you to join with us in the protec- tion and preservation of our American liberties and ideals. We are asking for only two and one-half hours of your time each week. There is no personal expense involved and no danger of Federal induction. You will be proud of your affiliation with the Guard and happy in your
association with that group of intelligent and patriotic men who have given so unselfishly of their time to make the 27th Battalion what it is today. TEXAS NEEDS THE STATE GUARD-THE STATE GUARD NEEDS YOU- JOIN TODAY. MARSHALL H. KENNADY, Major Infantry TEX., Commanding 27th Bn. A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE 27TH BATTALION TEXAS STATE GUARD
