The Rusk Kiwanls Club held
Its weekly meeting Tuesday,
January 11th, at the Plneview
Restaurant with 23 In atten.
dance including Nicky Cleve.
land and Glen Tolar from the
Key Club, and Dave Wallace
from Dallas, Texas.
After the noon meal Bill
Parrott led the club in sing-
ing, accompanied on the piano
by Mrs. Webb Finley, the
Pledge to the Flag was led
by Orvan Jones, Webb Fin-
ley offered the Invocation, and
there were 12 who indicated
they had attended church the
previous Sunday.
Final Rites
Held For Mr.
II. E. Copeland
Funeral services for L'.E,
Copeland, a former Rusk res-
ident, were held at 2;00 p.m.
Saturday in the Nordline Ch-
urch of Christ in Houston.
Mr. Copeland passed away
Friday in Houston following an
illness of about one year.
Interment was in Rosewood
Cemetery in Humble.
Mr. Copeland was a former
Rusk resident but had resided
in Houston for about 20years.
He was a veteran of World
War II.
Survivors include his wife,
Frances; one son; fourdaugh-
ters; his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J.H. Copeland of Rusk;
four sisters, Mrs. Edna Wil-
cox of Rusk, Mrs. M.D. Ar-
rington of Turney, Mrs. Betty
Langham of Jacksonville, and
Mrs. P.R. Brown of Conroe;
and four brothers, Don Cope-
land of Rusk, J.T. Copeland of
Tyler, Homer Copeland of
Fort Worth, and Billy Cope-
land of Dallas.
Funeral Rites
Held Sunday For
Annie Mclver
Funeral services for Mrs.
Annie B. Mclver of Rusk were
held at 1;00 p.m. Sunday in the
Wallace Funeral Chapel. She
passed away Friday in a local
nursing home. Interment was
in Rusk's Tedar Hill Cemet-
ery under the direction of
Wallace Funeral Home. Rev.
Ben Pierce officiated for the
final rites.
Mrs. Mclver was a lifelong
resident of Rusk and Cherokee
County. She was a member of
the Methodist church.
Survivors include two sons,
Thomas L. Barley of Crockett
and George D, Mclver of El
Paso; and one daughter, Mrs.
Pauline Disharoon of Long,
view.
Pallbearers were Webb Fin-
ley, Walter Roten,Travis Ro-
ten, C.C. Vining. Malcolm
Guinn and Ed Dickey.
Charles Derrick presided
over the business session;
and there was a favorable
vote to inviting the Lions
Club to participate in a bask,
etball game in the near
future at some appropri-
ate time. The Live Stock
Exhibit was also discussed.
Frank Summers, program
chairman for January, intro-
duced Mrs. Jacque Clay, Dir-
ector of Nursing at the Rusk
State Hospital, as the speaker
for the program. Mrs. Clay
covered the wide subject cf
nursing, emphasizing that
more and more there was a
need and an open field for
men nurses, the men having
more opportunities than
women in many kinds of ser-
vice.
The next meeting of the Ki-
wanls Club will be held
Tuesday, January 18th, at the
Pineview Restaurant at 12¡00
noon.

Council
To Meet
The initial meeting of the
newly organized Regional
Curriculum Council for the
Region VII Education Ser-
vice Center in Kilgore
is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
on Tuesday, January 11, ac-
cording to an announce-
ment by Von Rhea Beane. ex-
ecutive director for Region
VII.
The Regional Curriculum
Council will serve in an ad-
visory capacity in planning
curriculum and instructional
activities for Region VII.
This will include a review of
activities currently being im-
plemented.
