Chapter NSDAR met Thurs-
day, October 8, In the home
of Mrs. J. D. Kelsay with
Mrs. Seymour Todd as Co-
Hostes?, Refreshments were
served upon arrival from a
gaily decorated table using
the Halloween theme, "Be-
witched". Ice cream balls,
along with dips and assorted
crackers were served by Mrs.
Earl Gay. Mrs. Henry Guen-
zel presided at the silver
coffee service.
Mrs. Henry O, Guen 'el. Re-
gent presided with all mem-
bers repeating the Pledge to
the Flag and the Americans
Creed,
Mrs. J. D. Kelsay Intro,
duced Dr. A. Garrett Hill
who gave a most Informa-
tive and interesting program
on "Environmental Pollu-
tion". Dr. Hill discussed
three types of Pollution: air,
water waste and solid waste.
He also discussed a fourth,
'that of noise pollution which
is a problem in large cities.
One of the problems being
worked on for open burning
in sawmills is being tested
by a new industry in Jack-
sonville. He showed a samp-
le brickett made from saw-
dust which would help eli-
minate the numerous saw-
dust fire' in our area.
Mrs. George Singleton, Li-
brarian announced that a gift
of the book "Greenberry
Jenkins of Cherokee County,
Texas" compiled by Jack S.
Jenkins had been presented
to the Major Thaddeus Beall
Chapter by Mrs. A, G. Hill.
It is to'be placed in the Ge-
nelogical Section of the Jack-
sonville Public Library.
Mrs. Ogretta Huttash was
given a standing vote of thanks
for the work she has done on
the Marriage Records of
Cherokee County, She has
copied the records from the
years 1846-1875 consisting of
212 typewritten pages. A copy
has been sent to the National
Office in Washington D. C.
in the name of the local Chap-
ter and the State of Texas,
Mrs. Guenzel announced that
she would be attending the
District Workshop in Tyler,
October 28-29,
Mrs. J. D, Kelsay gave the
National Defense report.

ing her granddaughter Mrs.
MJke Cassidy and family at
Houston, The Cassldys bro-
ught her home. His mother,
Mrs, Mollle Cassidy, whore-
cently retired from Rusk State
Hospital returned with them to
Houston for a visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Davis
of Laredo are gue'ts of his
aunt, Mrs. Nina D. Sherman
this week.
O. Guenzel and the Hostesses

The next meeting will be
November 12 in the home of
Mrs. George Cravey in Bul-
lard.
The Easter Seal Chapter of
Cherokee County will be cited
at the State Easter Seal Soc-
iety's Convention in San An-
tonio October 16 & 17, 1970.
Highlights of the Convention
will be the Nell A.Armstrong
Awards Luncheon on Sat-
urday, October 17, at the Men-
ger Hotel in San Antonio. At
this Luncheon Astronaut
Armstrong will personally
present a citation to the Eas-
ter Seal volunteers of
Cherokee County. Astronaut
Armstrong, the 1970 Texas
Easter Seal Chairman, will
also present the largest sch-
olarship in the history of the
State Society, a $2,500 phy-
sical therapy scholarship, at
this Luncheon.
Lieutenant Governor Ben
Barnes will present Ast-
ronaut Armstrong with aNat-
ional citation on behalf of the
Texas Easter Seal Society.
