re-elected Congressman John
Dowdy to his post last Saturday.'
Unsuccessful candidate was Bill
Crook, resigned Baptist preacher!
of Nacogdoches, who ran Dowdy
a close race all the way.
Final returns Monday gave Dow-,
dy 37,273 votes to 32,304 for Crook, j
Cherokee County voters favored
Crook by a small margin, 3831 to
4105 Only three of the thirteen
counties gave Crook a majority.
One was Cherokee; the others, Na-
cogdoches and Angelina.
The county vote was the third
largest in the 7th Congressional
District. It was exceeded only by
Nacogdoches and Angelina Coun-
ties.
Dowdy's home county of Hender-
son endorsed him strongly. His
vote there was 4,448. Crook re-
ceived 1,846 of Henderson Coun-
ty's vote. Dowdy, on the other
hand, cut into his opponent's home
county vote heavily He received
3,314 Nacogdoches County votes
to Crook's 4,873.

pree presiding. After routine re-
ports, the program was given as

A called meeting was held Thurs-
day for the purpose of electing
new officers, who are: president,
Greg Dupree; vice president, Dicky

In Dallas
Funeral services were held at
2:30 Friday for Mrs. I<ola Ix>wis in
Dallas at the Sparkman's Ross Ave-
nue Chapel with Rev. Gid .1 Bryan
officiating. Burial was in Grove
Hill Cemetery.
A former resident of this city,
she is survived by two sisters, Miss
Marihelen McDuff and Mrs. John
vender of Dallas; one brother,
K li McDuff of New York City.
