‘IHE Rev. Mt. SLATER, of the Episcopal Church of the Uni-
A versity of Oxford, England, has been induced at the sug- !
gestion of many friends, to establish a Classical and Commer-
cial Institution in the City of Galveston, where parents may se-
cure for their children a* complete an education as could be
cemmanded in any Seminary in the United States.
Such an lostitution he has been assured, has been long and |
ardently desired here, and Mr. Slater hopes by his exertions to
preclude the necessity of parents in Texas being obliged to re-
sort to the North in order to educate their children.
The course of education would embrace instructions in the
Greek and Latin languages, with the Mathematics. The
French and Spanish languages with the outline branches of a
thorough English education, comprehendihg Grammar, Geog-
raphy and History, Arithmetic, Composition and Elocution,
A residence for a long period at Paris, has enabled Mr. 8. to
teach the French language with the ability of a native of
France,
