A family home in Cove was a total
loss after a fire started during a Christ-
mas party about 9 Saturday night, ac-
cording to Chambers County Sheriff
Brian Hawthorne.
He said the fire apparently started in
the attic near the chimney of an outdoor
fireplace at the home.
Santa made an appearance at the party,
Hawthorne said, and it was shortly after
he left that someone noticed the fire.
“Fortunately there were plenty of re-
sponsible adults who were able to make
sure that all of the children and pets and
even a lot of the gifts were able to be
removed from the house,” he said.
The Cove Volunteer Fire Department
was first on the scene, but the fire was
too far along and they had to pull out of
the house.

Three men were killed about 8 a.m. Monday
in Channelview during an apparent home in-
vasion, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed
Gonzalez. The deceased men were attempting
to rob the home when one of the residents shot
them with a shotgun.
Gonzalez said two men live in the mobile
home in the 1800 block of Amie Michele Lane,
near Crenshaw Elementary School in Chan-
nelview. One of the residents saw the three men
and hid. The other got a shotgun and exchanged
gunfire.
All three would-be burglars were killed, and
the resident was hospitalized in serious condi-
tion and expected to undergo surgery.
Gonzalez said an early report of a fourth
burglar was inaccurate, and investigators have
found no evidence of additional people involved,
but the investigation is in its early stages.
