Vernon St., Houston, Texas. He is the author of several articles
on early Texas railroads and a book titled, A History of the
Texas Railroads and of Transportation Conditions under Spain,
Mexico, the Republic, and State.
J. A. R. Moseley, "The Citizens White Primary in Marion
County, Texas," is a resident of Dallas, but was born and reared
in Marion County where his ancestors settled almost a century
ago. Besides his interest in Texas history in general and that
of Marion County in particular, he is a challenging book col-
lector. Moseley is interested in that ultimate desideratum of
the book collector--the "unique book." Moseley's show pieces
are no mere coincidence; he is his own creator of uniqueness.
For example, he takes a current Texas book, perhaps George
W. Littlefield, and has the illustrator, Harold Bugbee, do a series
of special drawings in color to use as special insertions when
the book is rebound in the very delicate skin of an unborn calf.
Several original letters from Major Littlefield written to H. A.
Wroe in 1919 are also included. He collaborates with the au-
thors, illustrators, and printers to obtain original material to
use when the book is rebound in some distinctive fashion by
the finest binders America affords. The materials for the bind-
ing are in keeping with the subject of the book. Thus is created
a piece of Texana that will be a collector's item for centuries
to come.
Moseley is the author of The Presbyterian Church in Jeffer-
son, a beautiful volume recently from the press of Carl Hertzog
in El Paso and published by the Association. During World
War II Moseley served as a Director of the Smaller War Plants
Corporation in Washington. At the present time he has offices
in the Republic Bank Building at Dallas where he directs his
various business interests.
E. W. Winkler, "Check List of Texas Imprints, 1846-1876,"
the dean of Texas bibliographers and a walking encyclopedia
of Texas books, is bibliographer of the University of Texas
Library.
Lois Foster Blount, "The Old Red House in Nacogdoches," is
a member of the department of history in Stephen F. Austin
State Teachers College, Nacogdoches, where she is also assistant677
