for general excellence of daily
newspapers in towns under
10,000 population in the first
all - southwestern newspaper
contest sponsored by the State
Fair of Texas in Dallas Sat-
urday. The Lufkin News won
"first place.
The Register received a cer-
tificate of award and a cash
prize of 815 in recognition of
its excellence. This newspaper
Won first place in similar con-
tests at the State Fair in 1983
and 1934.

when Henderson intercepted a
