Christine Stanley
Managing Editor
They can burn their books!
In the immortal words of Alice
Cooper, school is out forever -
or at least until this summer's
1,950 graduates decide to get
another degree.
Graduation commencement
is this Saturday for NT's 2004
summer graduates. Officials
from the registrar's office said
1,200 people have reserved a
space to walk across the stage,
making up 61 percent of the
total graduating class. Fifty-
two doctoral candidates have
completed their programs this
summer but, as of Wednesday,
only 33 are planned to "be
hooded."
Dr. Lou Pelton will be giv-
ing the commencement speech
at 12:30 p.m. in the Coliseum,
on Highland Street at North
Texas Boulevard. Pelton is an
associate professor in the De-
partment of Marketing and
Logistics. Pelton started NT's
first business and merchan-
dising study abroad program
in China, and is considered
an expert on global market-
ing channels and marketing
ethics.
A reception for all gradu-
ates and their guests will be
held at the Gateway Center
after the pomp and circum-
stance. Hours for the recep-
tion are from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30
p.m. A live web broadcast of
the commencement ceremony
will be shown at unt.edu/
commencement for distant
family members and friends.
