tations when he followed
his quiet children's film
"Wide Awake" with the
1999 mind-bender 'The
Sixth Sense" and his sub-
sequent films "Unbreak-
able" and "Signs."
"The Village" will un-
doubtedly add another hit
to Shyamalan's resume,
hopefully putting him in
the running for a much-
deserved Oscar.

Fans of the original may want
to skip the new movie, which
makes drastic changes on the
original plot, but a new audi-
ence can expect a fast-paced
movie from this talented cast.

Few fans will recognize
the cult TV classic "Thun-
derbirds" in Universal Stu-
dios' new film.
The studio scrapped
the simple, but endearing
marionettes and plain, but
enjoyable plot for over-
the-top action and colorful
graphics in this remake of
the 1960s show.
Worse, studio execs trad-
ed a puppet for an even less-
talented actor in Bill Paxton,
who portrays Thunderbird
patriarch Jeff Tracy.
He's battled "Aliens,"
chased a "Twister" and
searched for treasure on
"Titanic" but still has noth-
ing to show for his pains.
It's been "Game over,
man, game over" for Pax-
ton's career for some time,
but he's at it again - this
time saving the world and
fighting The Hood, played
by none other than Sir Ben
Kingsley, who of all people
should have known better
than to sign on to a cheap,
graphic-heavy, plotless
kids'-flick.
The film actually follows
Tracy's youngest son, Alan,
in a prepubescent pilgrim-
age to prove himself to his
father.
Needless to say, Thun-
derbirds will at least hold
a child's attention span for
a couple of hours, but older
viewers would be better-
suited searching for reruns
of the original.
