Tbe Times states what. It should
know Is untrue when It asserts that the
Limit said that Van Itlpcr "trembling-

Hughes. Tbe Light knows tbe Van
Klper boys' courage too well to make
anv such absurd statements. What It
did aay was tbat Van ltlper was "con-

able. Inasmuch as he had to arrest an of-

whom he bad often associated. Right
because the vigilance of a Lioiit man

Hoparatlon or Husoand and Wlfo and
the Taking ot Ills Two Clilldron
by the Husband.
Several years ago Mr. Cicero Cullen
came on to San Antonio and wedded
Mrs Beck a beautiful elegant and ac-
complished widow whose first husband
had been a prominent figure In Uexar
county. Mr. Cullen and Mrs. Beck bad
known each other In their youthful
days In Pensasola. and had been lovers
In the time of "The purple light of love
and young desire." Iluf after they were
wedded the fact became painfully ap-
parent tbat they were somehow inli-
matohed either In temper or tempera-
ment and they separated some two
years ago but with no feelings ol
estrangement to embitter their separa-
tion. Pretty soon after this separation
the parties "kissed and made It up" and
matters ran along smoothly In their ac-
customed grooves 'until about two
months ago. when a second separation
occurred. Air. Cullen is engaged In buy-
ing and shipping bones and he was ab-
sent from San Antonio In the prosecu-
tion of his business for several weeks
but returned about ten days ago. He
called almost dally to see bis wife wbo
resides on Avenue I) but she declined
to see him hut at his earnest request a
few days ago she went Into the parlor to
seo him frankly Informing him that
marital relations never could be re-established
between them. Mr. Cullen
very reluctantly aoqulsced In her de-
cision and proceeded to say he wanted
to have the photographs or their two
little sons taken.and desired her to have
them dressed for this purpose. Mrs.
Cullen at once assented and hastened lo
get tbe two little boys ready and the)
went on wun ineir latuer wno nau
their photographs taken by an artist In
the oily and then carried tbem back lo
their mother banding her a photograph
of each one of the boys. The next day
Mast Thursday) he called and asked Mrs.
Cullen If be oould take the two boys out
to San Pedro springs and as she cheer-
fully consented he went off with the
two boys. Late that evening he ad-
dressed a note to Mrs. Cnllen telling
her tnat be desired to take the children
to the theatre at Turner hall and as It
would be late before tbe theatre would
olose he asked permission to have the
boys stay all night with him at the
Southern hotel where be was stopping.
Mrs. Cullen cheerfully agreed to the
proposed arrangement as she was per
redly unsuspicious but later on. after
dark she beoarae uneasy and Informed
