Vote March S <9
Office of President
Erica Hakimi
My name is Erica Hakimi and I am a candidate for the office of Student Bar
Association President. I've had the pleasure of serving the student body for the
past 2 years as 1L Section Representative and as Mid-Law Senator this past
year. As Mid-Law Senator my duties included
planning the school's social events including
all atrium parties, the Halloween Carnival,
Chili-Cook Off, End of the Year Bash, and
the upcoming Spring Banquet. This year we
even implemented Cheese and Crackers So-
cials to benefit our part-time and evening stu-
dents. This past year I have effectively been
able to manage my time between planning the
parties, budgeting for them, communicating
with various levels of administration to en-
sure the success of these events, and
fundraising for local charities that proceeds
from some of the parties benefited.
There are many things I would like to accomplish if elected President. A few
of these ideas include a December Graduation, a book exchange and an im-
proved outline bank in the SBA office, and better communication between the
student body and administration, faculty, and staff.
I believe I am the most qualified candidate to serve the student body as
President. I am a team player, work well with others, and am organized and
goal oriented. These are all the qualities a leader should possess and it would be
a true honor for me to be your SBA President. Thanks for your support.
Annette "Ann" Johnson
It is an honor to attend South Texas College of Law with you.
We have a great student body and faculty who are committed to accom-
plishing great things for our school, our profession and our community. The
things that we do as a group—such as the
record-setting donation of more than 20,000
canned goods to the Houston Food Bank and
recognition as the ABA/LSD's Outstanding
School of the Year for 1998 — send our mes-
sage of achievement and service to the com-
munity. My desire is that we continue to send
this great message.
It has been an honor to be your 1L Repre-
sentative and Freshman Senator on our Stu-
dent Board. I have also represented you as a
local member and National Vice-Chair elect
of the Law Student Division of the American
Bar Association. At the local and national level,
the greatest thing about meeting other students and lawyers is carrying to them
the message that South Texas College of Law is the best law school in this
nation.
I pledge to do my best in representing your interest before the Faculty and
Administration as well as with other law schools, students and the members of
the legal profession,
I look forward to meeting you on March 8th or 9,h and I would appreciate
your vote for President.
Thank you.
Annette (Ann) Johnson
Office of Secretary
Jenni Hodges —
My name is Jenni Hodges. I have enjoyed my involvement in the SBA since
I began law school. My first position in the SBA was as a 1L Representative. 1
had the opportunity to represent my fellow 1 Ls as well as relay important SBA
activities and events to them. Also, during my first year, 1 volunteered to plan
an end of the year semi-formal party at the Spy
Club. During this first year of involvement, I
realized how much I enjoyed being an SBA of-
ficer and working with so many fine members
on the board.
This year, I was fortunate enough to be elected
as Vice President of SBA. As Vice President,
one of my duties included being the liaison be-
tween the SBA and the student organizations. I
really enjoyed working with such a diverse cross-
section of students. Another duty of my posi-
tion was to coordinate a school-wide commu-
nity service project. I choose the recently completed Habitat for Humanity
project as this year's project. It was extremely successful with over 100 student,
faculty and staff volunteers. We all had a great time as we positively repre-
sented South Texas in the community.
I have loved spending my time involved with the SBA and would like to
continue my involvement next year as President. I know that my past experi-
ences and current dedication will help me in my success as an effective SBA
President.
Office of Treasurer
Clay Rooker
My name is Clay Rooker and I would be honored to serve as your next
Treasurer for the SBA Board of Governors. The Office of Treasurer requires
one primary qualification-that of trust. Trust should be an admirable trait, but
today the concept is bantered about and treated as a theory to be parsed, ma-
nipulated and misused. The irony is that we all have understood the meaning of
trust since we were infants and toddlers but as we have grown older (and more
sophisticated) our original understanding of trust
has become distorted from the constant abuse
of lies, deceit, betrayal, and pretense.
As your SBA Treasurer 1 will strive to make
trust the underlying principle and primary goal of I
the SBA. I will always be available to each of |
you who wish to voice concerns, comments, and
complaints to the Board of Governors. I will
work hard in the responsible management of the
SBA funds and will make available to the STCL
student body the Treasurer's Report and SBA
Budget at any time requested. This is your Student Bar Association and these are
your funds.
Over the past year I have served as 1L Section Representative, an Annotations
staff writer, and as GLLSA Treasurer. Our student body is diverse, energetic, and
gifted and 1 have gained insight into the varied aspects of many of your lives and
individual needs. I hope my experience and principles represent those qualities you
would choose for SBA Treasurer. Thank you for your supporting vote.
Jaffray R. Mintz
It's time for SBA elections! With this in mind, I would like to
formally introduce myself to those of you I have yet to meet.
My name is Jaffray Mintz, and I am a 2L here at South Texas. I
also hope to be your Student Bar Association's new Secretary.
Through my involvement with the SBA, I have become an
active member of our student body. I have made many of the
signs you've seen around school and have contributed my time
and efforts to everything from the Houston Food Bank's canned
food drive to the school's annual Halloween carnival. More
recently, I worked with some of our fellow students to re-estab-
lish our school's involvement with Habitat for Humanity, which
we hope will be a great success.
Next year, 1 hope not only to continue working for our stu-
dent body, but also to encourage students to become as involved
as they want to be. After all, there is more to this school than
books and outlines... I promise! As Secretary, I will guarantee
that whenever there is something to know, the students will know
about it.
So, before you take a break from your books to vote, take a
minute to think about what kind of person you want represent-
ing you. íf you want someone with the enthusiasm and dedica-
tion to help make the student body a strong and cohesive one,
then please vote for me, Jaffray Mintz, for your SBA's new
Secretary. Thank you!
