ANNOTATIONS, SBA
Take Top LSD Honors
By JOE COLLETTI
ANNOTATIONS Staff Writer
STCL's Student Bar Association and school newspaper,
ANNOTATIONS, were recognized as the best school SBA and the
best law school newspaper in the 13th Circuit by the American Bar
Association - Law School Division (AfcA - LSD) which held their
annual circuit conference March 21-23 at the downtown Holiday
Inn.
The 13th Circuit of the ABA - LSD encompasses the states of
Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas and includes 14 law schools within
these states.
Three awards were presented at this conference with two of them
going to STCL. The awards presented were for the best SBA, the
best SBA project, and the best law school newspaper.
SMU was recognized as the school with the best SBA project
involving a program which eliminated class rankings at that school.
The students at SMU felt that class rankings are false and misleading
when applying for jobs and emphasis should be placed on grade
point average rather than class rankings.
Last year, STCL's Student Bar Association also won the award
for the best SBA and this year marks the second year in a row that
STCL has won such an honor.
The ABA - LSD's annual meeting is going to be held this year in
Montreal. This annual meeting will take place during the month of
August. STCL won honorable mention at last year's annual meeting
which was held in Chicago, and all of us here at STCL wish the
school the best of luck this year in Montreal.

Women
'Women-in-Law9 Group Launched
Women students of STCL
have asked for and received
formal recognition by the
Student Bar Association. At its
last meeting, the SBA
unanimously accepted a motion
to formally recognize the
Women-in-Law group and will
present a proclamation to that
effect at the next meeting.
Formal recognition allows
STCL to benefit from LSD
funds available for schools that
have women law student
organization projects recognized
by the SBA.
The organization's newly
elected executive officer,
Summer Milton, presented to
the SBA the needs and goals of a
women's caucus at the March
14th meeting.
Ms. Milton noted that
upwards of 35% of women
students of STCL have already
actively participated in the
organizational aspects of the
group. This participation alone is
strong indicia of the need for
formal representation.
Other officers, elected at the
last meeting were Elise
Wilkinson, Vice-President and
Gloria Rosencrantz,
Secretary-T reasurer.
A National Conference held
at Stanford University in Palo
Alto, California on March 21-23,
1975, highlighted a number of
the problems unique to women
in law. The SBA at South Texas
provided funds for
representation of STCL at this
conference.
Five women students
attended the conference where
they participated in diverse
workshops and overviews.
One of the organization's
aims is to provide additional
professional contacts between all
STCL students and women
attorneys and women clients.
The STCL Women-in-Law
group will direct its attention to
the woman attorney and to legal
problems encountered by
women, but invites all of the
students and faculty to take an
active part in upcoming
programs. The next meeting is
April 5th at 7:00 p.m. at Terry
Wyrick's home. At 8 p.m, a
discussion of the Sixth Annual
National Conference on Women
and the Law will be held.
