The King James Version
By JIM SKELTON
SBA President
Fellow Students:
Due to a back injury, during
most of the month of
September, I was unable to
attend classes. However,
beginning with the S.B.A.
general meeting of September
24, I resumed my duties as your
President of the S.B.A. I hope to
continue a comeback to fulltime
participation in both academic
and S.B.A. work.
The other members of your
Board of Governors have been
working with me to keep me
informed of the events at STCL.
Together, I believe we'll be able
to have a full and successful
semester.
The cooperation of the other
members of the Board has
allowed me to file the following
report:
STUDENT DIRECTORY
The 1974-75 Studnet
Directory is now being prepared
by your Board of Governors.
Advertisers are currently being
contacted and a list of student
names and addresses will be
completed within the week.
Target date for distribution is
the end of the month of
October. We have received a
promise of 2 weeks publishing
time from the publisher, so that
date appears to be attainable.
EXECUTIVE MEETING
An executive meeting of the
Board of Governors was held at
my residence on Tuesday,
September 17, 1974. During the
course of the meeting, plans and
prospects for this semester were
discussed in an attempt to give
your S.B.A. a more defined
direction.
During the executive meeting
mention was made of some
LSD/ABA projects in which all
agreed it would be worth
participating. This first is a
matching funds program for a
legal aid project. Althought still
in the planning stages, Felix
Recio has volunteered to assist
in developing the program along
the lines of an internship
opportunity. More on this will
be forthcoming by November.
SECRETARY'S RESIGNATION
Kin Pier, S.B.A. Secretary,
tendered his resignation at the
September 17 executive
meeting. I accepted the
resignation which became
effective September 24, 1974.
Applications for the position
will be open for 10 days from
the official date of notice,
September 30. The Board of
Governors will elect a
replacement from such
applications during the October
10 general meeting.
Qualifications for the
position are a minimum of 20
and a maximum of 65 semester
hours completed (as defined in
ART. Ill Section 6 of the S.B.A.
Constitution). Such persons
must also have 3 semesters
remaining, exclusive of the
semester of the election, as
calculated from the date of the
regular elections last spring
semester.
HONOR CODE REVISION
The Honor Code Revision
committee, headed by Dave
Coover is nearly finished writing
a proposed honor code. The
proposed code will be presented
to the Board of Governors for
approval in October. If
approved, the code will be
distributed to the student body
and an election will be held
during pre-registration
November 21 and 22.
GOLF TOURNAMENT
Another golf tourney has
been requested by many
students. Randy Delay has been
appointed Chairman of the
special committee to arrange this
semester's competition.
Tentative date is November 9th
at Gus Wortham Park Golf
Course.
OUTLINE FILE
It has been brought to my
attention that no one else has
donated outlines to the file in
the S.B.A. office. This makes a
total of only 17 outlines out of a
possible 38 which are available
now.
In order to make this file a
viable one, the remaining
outlines should be donated. It is
my hope that those who have
been using the file will see the
light and donate those needed
outlines.
BARBEQUE PARTY
Janet Boyle, Mid-law Senator,
has been appointed chairman of
a committee to organize a school
party this semester. Plans are
still in the developing stage, but
it appears that the end of
October or early November will
be the target date.
The party will include
barbeque, entertainment, and all
the beer you can drink. More
details will be forthcoming at
the October 10 general meeting.

The White House Fellows
A Unique Opportunity
By PEGGY FORTNER
Placement Office Manager
With the commencement of
the White House Fellows
Program in 1964, 169
participants have developed a
keener understanding of their
government through actual
participation in and
development of its programs.
Prompted by the Carnegie
Foundation, the program seeks
to draw young people, between
the ages of 23 and 35 to
Washington to participate in
educational activities revolving
around all parts of governmental
life.
Normally, Fellows have
completed their education and
begun their careers - in fields as
diverse as medicine, law, and
engineering. Fellows are assigned
to White House staff members,
the Vice President, and to
members of the Cabinet for a
period of one year. The actual
nature of the assignment will
vary with the particular talents,
interests, and background of the
participant.
To supplement the learning
process inherent in their
assignments, Fellows are also
given the chance to meet with
prominent representatives from
government and private sectors.
White House Fellows receive
a government salary of up to
$30,147 for the first year, with
adjustments made according to
education, experience, and
previous earnings. This is, indeed
a unique opportunity for you to
learn and to grow with the
processes of our government.
Come by the Office-
Room 300 - for complete
information describing the
program. Applications for the
1975 program (to begin in
September of that year) must be
mailed prior to December 2,
1974.
